Principal’s Message
The school year is now officially underway and it
is so wonderful to see and hear the sights and
sounds of daily instruction at Rock Creek
Valley. I remain so appreciative of the support
and involvement of all our parents! As I have
frequently said, I firmly believe that the key to a
successful school is having everyone work
together to provide the best learning
environment and instructional program possible
for each of our students. Our PEACE Program
provides RCV with a foundation for the positive
learning environment. Staff and parents work
collaboratively to help problem solve any issues
that may arise and constantly find ways to
improve our school. If an issue of bullying does
arise, I want all parents to know that the state of
Maryland has also established a procedure for
parents to formally report their concerns. While
we are very fortunate to be able to address
almost all our concerns in a pro-active and
collaborative manner; there have been
individual situations in which parents felt it
important to have a written report of bullying
made a part of formal school records. The
reporting form is attached for your information
should you ever feel a situation warrants this
type of reporting.
If you have any questions about this, please do
not hesitate to contact me or Gail Valle, our
school counselor.
Student Attendance.
Students are expected to be in school, on time,
each day by 9:10 a.m. If you need to bring a child
late or pick a child up early, please come to the
office and sign your child in/out. When a
student leaves early, the office staff notifies the
classroom teacher and the teacher sends the
student to the office for dismissal. As mandated
by the State of Maryland, guidelines for
recording absences and tardies are as follows:
 Students will now be recorded as A.M.
absent if they arrive at school more than
two hours late.
Students will now be recorded as P.M.
absent if they leave school more than
two hours early.
 Students will now be recorded as either
A.M. absent or P.M. absent, if they are
absent from school for more than two
hours, but less than four hours during
the school day.
 Students will now be recorded as fullday absent, if they are present for less
than two hours of the school day
Two additional procedures that we would like
parents to follow:
1. If your child will be absent or late.
PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE TO
LET US KNOW.
2. If you are going to pick up your
child early, a written note is
needed. We will get your child
from class when you arrive at
school.

Young Rembrants’ Drawing Class
Student Dismissal
Young Rembrants’ Drawing Class is a PTAsponsored after school activity for grades K to
5. Sessions will meet for 10 weeks on Mondays,
3:45
to 4:45 PM, starting on October
7th. Your child will be bringing a
flyer home next week.
We would like to ask that for non-emergency
changes in dismissal, a note be sent in with the
child, or that the parents call in the morning,
because when parents call during or right before
dismissal, it makes dismissal more confusing,
and it is disruptive to afternoon classes.
Yard Sale – October 5, 2013
The annual community yard sale at RCV will be
held on Saturday, October 5 from 8:00 a.m-12:00
noon. As part of our fundraiser,
we rent tables out for $20.00.
Proceeds from the yard sale will
help support and defray costs of
student programs and activities. Flyers are in
your child’s Friday Folder’s today.
Student Emergency Information
We have sent home two very important forms
with your children, the Student Emergency
Information form and the Parent Reunification
form. If you have not had a chance to return
those to the school yet, please do so as soon as
possible, as we use these sheets in case of an
emergency. If you need a new one please inquire
in the main office.
RCV Book Fair
A reminder that the book fair will be held from
Monday, 9/23/2013 – Friday, 9/27/2013. There
will also be Pizza Night at the Book Fair on
Tuesday 9/24/2013.
Parent Visitation on Columbus Day
A reminder--Parent Visitation Day will be held on
October 14, 2013--Columbus Day. On this day
you can visit your child’s classroom anytime from
9:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Mensaje de la Directora
El año escolar está oficialmente en marcha y
es maravilloso ver y escuchar las vistas y
sonidos de instrucción diaria en Rock Creek
Valley. Yo continúo apreciando el apoyo y
participación de todos nuestros padres!
Como he dicho frecuentemente,
creo
firmemente que la llave para el éxito escolar
es tener a todos trabajando juntos para
proveer el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje y
un posible programa instruccional para cada
uno de nuestros estudiantes. Nuestro
programa PEACE provee a RCV con una
fundación, para un ambiente de aprendizaje
positivo y el staff y los padres trabajan
colaborando para ayudar a resolver un
problema sobre cualquier asunto que pueda
surgir y buscar constatemente vias para
mejorar nuestra escuela. Si algún asunto de
intimidación (bullying) surge, quiero que
todos los padres sepan que el Estado de
Maryland también ha establecido un
procedimiento para que los padres puedan
reportar formalmente sus preocupaciones.
Mientras nosotros somos afortunados de
poder abordar casi todas nuestras
preocupaciones de manera dinámica y
colaboradora; ha habido situaciones
individuales en donde los padres sintieron
que era importante tener un reporte formal
de intimidación (bullying) como parte formal
del record escolar. El formulario de reporte
de bullying está adjuntado para su
información, si Usted siente que una
situación justifica este tipo de reporte.
Si Usted tiene alguna pregunta sobre esto,
por favor no dude en contactarme o a Gail
Valle, nuestra consejera escolar.
Asistencia del estudiante
Se espera que los estudiantes deben estar
en la escuela a tiempo cada día a las 9:10
a.m. Si Usted necesita traer al niño tarde o
recogerlo temprano, por favor venga a la
oficina y registre la entrada o salida. Cuando
un estudiante sale temprano, el staff de la

más de dos horas pero menos de
cuatro horas durante el día escolar.
 Los
estudiantes
ahora
serán
anotados como ausentes todo el día
(full day absent), si ellos estan
ausentes por menos de dos horas del
día escolar.
Dos procedimientos adicionales que
nosotros queremos que los padres sigan:
1. Si su niño estará ausente o tarde,
POR FAVOR LLAME A LA OFICINA
PARA HACERNOS SABER.
2. Si viene a recoger a su niño
temprano, es necesario una nota
escrita. Nosotros llamaremos a su
niño del salón de clases cuando
Usted llegue a la escuela.

Young Rembrants’ Drawing Class es una
actividad después de la escuela
auspiciada por el PTA para los grados K
a 5. Serán 10 sesiones los días Lunes,
de 3:45 a 4:45 pm, comenzando el 7 de
octubre. Su niño llevará un flyer a la casa
la próxima semana.

La venta comunitaria anual de patio
(Yard Sale) en RCV será llevada a cabo
el Sábado 5 de octubre de 8 am a 12 del
mediodía. Como parte de nuestra
recaudación de fondos, rentaremos
mesas por $ 20.00
Los flyers están en el Folder del Viernes
de hoy.
Información de Emergencia del
Estudiante
Hemos enviado a casa dos importantes
formularios con sus niños, el formulario
de Información de Emergencia del
Estudiante
y
el
formulario
de
Reunificación con el Padre. Si Usted no
ha tenido la oportunidad de devolverlos a
la escuela todavía, por favor hágalo lo
más pronto posible, pues nosotros
usamos estos documentos en caso de
alguna emergencia. Si Usted necesita
una nueva copia, por favor pídala en la
Oficina.
Feria del Libro de RCV
Un recordatorio, que la Venta de Libro
(Book Fair) se llevará a cabo desde el
Lunes, 23 de Setiembre al Viernes, 27
de Setiembre del 2013. Habrá también
Noche de Pizza (Pizza Night) en la
Feria del Libro el Martes, 24 de
Setiembre del 2013.
Salida de los Estudiantes
Nos gustaría pedir a los padres, que los
cambios de salida, que no son de
emergencia, se nos envíe una nota con
el niño o que los padres llamen por la
mañana, porque cuando se llama
durante o cerca de la hora de salida,
hace que ésta sea más confusa e
interrumpe las clases de la tarde.
Visita de los Padres en el Dia de
Cristobal Colón.
Solo
para
hacerles
saber
con
anticipación que el día de visita de los
padres será llevado a cabo el día 14 de
Octubre del 2013, Día de Cristóbal
Colón. Este día, Usted puede visitar la
clase de su niño a cualquier hora entre
las 9:15 am a 3:30 pm.
