Principal’s Message
It is truly amazing how quickly time flies! As of
today's newsletter, we are only 13 days into the
new school year and yet we have already
completed the open house, settled into classes,
attended back to school night, and are well into
the 13-14 school year. So, as the first days of the
school year fade into the past I encourage you to
look forward to the rest of the school year and
consider how you can be involved in your child's
education in the coming days, weeks, and
months. Consider ...
Joining the PTA and attending some of our
monthly PTA meetings -- the next meeting being
held Tuesday, October 1,
Making plans now to observe in your child's class
on Parent Visitation Day (October 14th) and
attend
parent-teacher
conferences
on
November 11th & 12th;
Sending an email to your child's teacher--you can
find their exact email address on the RCV
website:
www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/rcvalleyes
to begin a year-long email dialogue about your
child's learning, successes, and ways in which
you can partner with your child's teacher to
further promote academic achievement; and
Marking your child's clothing with their name
and/or initials on the inner tag so that we can
make sure that your child's jacket does not end
up in the unclaimed lost and found in the coming
fall months when children routinely shed their
jackets during recess.
These are just a few ideas for how you can form
partnerships with your child's teacher and RCV
this year. So while the first exciting days of
school are fading, we are looking forward to days
ahead when working together will make each
day more proactive, successful, and exciting for
your child.
Yard Sale – October 5, 2013
The annual community yard sale at RCV will be
held on Saturday, October 5 from 8:00 a.m-12:00
noon. As part of our fundraiser,
we rent tables out for $20.00.
Come join us for fun and
hopefully a profitable Saturday
morning.
RCV PTA KidStuff Coupon Books
The RCV PTA is selling KidStuff coupon books as
one of several fundraisers this year. All children
at RCV should have brought a coupon book
home with them last week for preview. These
coupon books are filled with hundreds of
coupons to be used at stores, restaurants, and
entertainment venues that we all frequent. To
purchase the coupon book, please return the
payment $25.00(checks made payable to the
RCV PTA) with your child. If you would like more
than one book, return the appropriate payment
and additional books will be sent home within
the next week. If you are not interested in
purchasing the book for your family, feel free to
sell it to someone who might enjoy the book,
purchase it as a gift, or simply return it to the
school’s main office. This is an easy way for our
PTA to make money—50% ($12.50) is made for
each book sold.
You can contact David
Goodman, PTA Vice President of Fundraising, at
[email protected] or by phone at
(301) 460-8393.

at school. We need to be able to reach you in
case of emergency, and/or if your child is ill. It
also provides the school with pertinent
information regarding your child’s health

have not already done so, please send in your

Open House at RCV
Monday, October 14, 2013 we will have Open
House at Rock Creek Valley. This is the day when
parents can visit their children’s classrooms. We
ask that parents do not bring younger siblings to
open house as they can be a distraction for the
students. Also, although open house is during
the entire day, we cannot have parents in the
cafeteria during lunch time due to the limited
amount of space. We hope to see you at Open
House!
