Principal’s Message
National Walk to School Day is coming on
October 9th. This is a day when students across
the country are encouraged to walk to school as
a way to promote overall physical fitness. At
Rock Creek Valley ES, we are inviting any
interested parents to walk with their children to
and from school on that day rather than driving
them in cars. In addition, we have made special
arrangements with the department of
transportation to have our school buses drop
students (in grades K – 5) off at the intersection
of Russett & Artic. There will be staff waiting to
meet them and walk them up Russett to school
that morning. So, put on your walking shoes and
join us to participate in National Walk to School
Day.
New Procedures for Front Door
By now, we hope everyone is familiar with our
front access security door. In the past, people
have been unable to hear the click on the door
when it opens. Also, our community of deaf and
hard of hearing visitors have also be unable to
detect when the door is opened.
Just this week, we had a new light and tone
installed on our access panel. When the red
button is pushed, there is a short pause and then
a loud ringtone will begin for about 5 seconds.
The red light will turn green. The door to your
immediate left (while facing the building) will
unlock again, for only 5 seconds, so it must be
opened immediately.
First RCV PTA Meeting-Tuesday-October 1
Please join us for our first RCV Parent-Teacher
Association (PTA) meeting of the school year on
Tuesday, October 1st at 7pm-8:30pm. Mrs. Tara
Lawrence, RCV's Media Specialist, will give a
presentation focusing on the programs and
subscriptions that are available to parents and
students through the RCV website, including
learning activities and things that parents can do
with their children at home. In addition, as
occurs at every PTA meeting, Ms. Jasperse will
update us about relevant school information,
news, etc... The meeting will be held in the RCV
Media Center and free babysitting will be
provided.
Family Fun Night is Coming!!!

Back by popular demand!
Learn to ride your bicycle now! As done in the
past 8 years, Mr. Hagai Golan, RCV Alumni Adi
and Gili's dad, will lead the way in teaching this
great technique to you and/or your kids.
Yes, there is a secret that will be revealed on how
to do it. No training wheels! No pressure. No
running n' pushing. No sweat. No worries. No
charge. (it's free). Some students learn to ride in
under 30 minutes - stress free! This cool system
has been used in the Golan Family for years and
will be shared with you. Come to the black top at
the back of RCV on Sunday, September 29th at
8:30-10:00am.* for individual tips, come a few
minutes early.
Yard Sale – October 5, 2013
Only one week until the RCV Yard Sale. This is a
good time to get rid of all those unused items
just taking up space and make a little cash in the
process. If you do not want to rent a table, you
can always donate to the RCV Table. Profits from
this table go to offset costs for student activities
in school. Remember-“One
man’s TRASH is another
man’s TREASURE.” Yard
sale is 8:00 a.m. until 12:00
noon. We rent tables out for $20.00. Come join
us for fun and hopefully a profitable Saturday
morning.
Moving Towards Peace
Students in grades 2 - 5 attended their first
cultural arts assembly of the year where they got
up to move and groove alongside their
teachers. Move This World, a group that links
movements to peaceful solutions, came to RCV
to discuss how students can deal with conflict
and empathize with others. Please ask your child
to show you what they learned!
RCV PTA KidStuff Coupon Books
Reminder- There are just a few days left to
purchase a Kidstuff Coupon Book. These coupon
books are unlike any others because they are
geared directly toward children. If you have not
purchased or returned the coupon book please
do so by Monday, September 30.
