Principal’s Message
I would like to invite everyone to put on their
sneakers next Wednesday and participate with
us in International Walk To School Day. If you are
able, you are invited to walk your child to school
on Wednesday. For those of you who have
children that ride a bus to school and cannot
walk them to school on that day, we will offer all
students in grades K-5 an opportunity to
participate, by having buses drop them off at
either Russett and Arctic, or Russett and Bauer
so that they can walk the remaining way to
school. We will have staff on duty
to supervise students walking to
school from either location. So,
sneakers ready ... On your mark,
get
set, and get walking to school on Wednesday
morning!
Parent Visitation Day is coming soon! All parents
are invited to come and spend a few minutes, an
hour, or most of the day at school on October
14th observing in your child's classroom. Any
and all events that day are open to parents who
are able to visit, other than lunch due to the
space restrictions in our all-purpose room. We
do ask that you do not bring younger siblings
with you to Parent Visitation Day as this can
become disruptive to the classroom instruction.
Please remember to sign-in and sign-out through
the front office during parent visitation day and
always wear a visitor’s sticker while you are in
the building on Monday. Also, if you are
planning to take your child with you after school,
please sign them out in the main office, so we
know where each child is going after school. So,
mark your calendars and make your plans ... we
hope to see you all on Monday, October 14.
Family Fun Night
It is almost here! Family Fun Night at RCV is on
Oct. 11, from 6:30-8:30 P.M. Come out and
enjoy some bingo, refreshments, friends, and
maybe even a raffle prize. Buy your tickets early
with the flyer that went
home. Don't have the
flyer, don't worry. Buy
your tickets at the door.
Don't miss out on all the
fun. Hope to see you
there.
Box Tops
A big thank you to all who have saved their box
tops and sent them in to RCV. The money
generated from the submission of these box tops
has been used to defray costs of student
activities and to purchase equipment and
software to benefit all of our students. Mrs. Kelly
Monroe is our new PTA chairperson of Box Tops.
She will be submitting our box tops two times a
year. The first deadline is the end of October. If
you have been saving those box tops and have
not turned them in yet, please do before
October 25. The next submission is later in the
year, so keep saving—it really does add up to a
lot of money.

Montgomery College Youth Programs
Montgomery College Youth Programs will
conduct a day full of fun with Futuremakers.
Futuremakers programs consist of experiential
learning activities where you take on the roles,
personalities, expectations, and experiences of
engineers, designers, and fabricators. Discover
the challenges of invention. This program will be
held on Saturday, October 19 at the Rockville
Campus of Montgomery College. For more
information about the program, check their
website at www.montgomerycollege.edu/youth. A
limited number of scholarships may be available
for students who qualify for free or reduced
lunch at school.
Parents Conferences – November 11 & 12
A Reminder –Parent/Teacher conferences will be
scheduled for November 11 & 12. These
conferences occur for all elementary age
students throughout MCPS. While we hope that
you remain in contact with your child's teacher
throughout the school year, these conferences
provide you with a great opportunity to hear
directly about your child's progress and learning.
Teachers will certainly have a lot of information
to share in a fairly brief period of time, and I hope
that you will all prepare to make the best use of
your conference time by taking a few moments
to reflect on what information you most want to
share and gain prior to coming into the
conference.
Teachers will communicate
regarding date and time of your child’s
conference as we near the dates in November.
