Principal’s Message
Each school in Montgomery County Public
Schools has a SERT (School Energy and Recycling
Team) committee that works to continuously
find ways to reduce energy consumption and
increase the amount of recycling each year. In
addition, Rock Creek Valley ES has been
recognized as a Maryland Green School which
means that we are also committed to finding
new ways to protect the environment by
promoting the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle. One
initiative that is being considered is having our
weekly newsletter go paperless. This would
mean that the weekly Eagle’s Eye would be
posted each week on the RCV website and while
a limited number of paper copies would be
available upon request in the front office. We
are targeting January 2014 for this change, but
want to make sure that everyone is prepared and
ready. If you DO NOT have internet access at
home, please let the office know by completing
the bottom portion of this week’s newsletter and
returning it to school. This will be critical
information to inform us of how many families
may need access to printed copies of the
newsletter after we make this transition. If you
have any further ideas about how we can
increase our efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle
here at RCV; please let us know.
Lions, Tigers & Bears, Oh My!
An Auction packet will be in your child’s Friday
folder today. The packet will include ticket order
forms, iPad raffle forms, absentee bidding forms,
and of course all the fantastic items you can
purchase through the live auction, the silent
auction or our staff activity raffle.
“A Book is a gift you can open again and
again.” –Garrison Keillor
The “Holidays” are
almost
here—what
better gift to give to
your children than a
new book. During the next weeks before
Winter Break, in collaboration with
Mrs. Lawrence, our media specialist, and
Mrs. Petruccelli, our reading specialist, we
will list suggested books to purchase for
children according to their age. This list can
also be helpful in buying gifts for family
members and/or a friends’ children as well.

Professor Bodywise Assembly
Today, November 8th, students in Pre-K
through 2nd grade attended a puppet show
called “Professor Bodywise”. This assembly
did more than just entertain our children.
The play promoted positive health and
safety messages too.
“Professor Bodywise”, sponsored by Kaiser
Permanente, addressed topics such as
healthy eating, active living, screen time
monitoring and responding to emergency
situations. The group used colorful, life size
costumed characters, puppets, music and
dance to inspire children. You can learn
more about this program by going to
