The Eagle’s Eye Rock Creek Valley Elementary School 5121 Russett Road, Rockville, MD Catherine Ann Jasperse, Principal (301) 460-2195 Fax (301)-460-2196 Julia Bialeski, Assistant Principal Friday, December 13, 2013 Principal’s Message I wanted to take an opportunity to remind everyone of some important procedures related to allergies and ensuring that all students are safe in school. If your child has any allergies, please make sure that the health room is aware of this. If your child does have an identified allergy, but you are not sure that the health room is aware of this, please call to share the information as soon as possible. This way, we can ensure that classroom teachers have critical information to ensure students’ safety and the health room can also work with you to make sure that we have any prescribed medicine available at school as needed. Also, please know that all parents who are interested in sending food into school to share with other students (to celebrate a birthday or class special event) should only send in food that is purchased from a store. Additionally, all food must have a complete ingredient label or it will not be able to be served to students. We ask that any birthday treats be labelled with the child’s name and teacher and brought to the main office. We will then make sure that the food is shared during the child’s identified lunch period in the cafeteria. This is to ensure that students with allergies do not unintentionally become exposed to – or ingest – food that would cause an allergic reaction. Finally, we want all parents to know that the county health department has provided all MCPS schools with Epi Pens that can be administered to any student having a severe allergic reaction who does not have prescribed medication to use at school. Health room and identified staff have been trained to administer this medication if the need ever arises. If you have any questions about these procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the office and/or health room so that we can discuss your child’s individual needs and provide you with additional specific information.
