Principal’s Message
As you all know, we launched our first
electronic newsletter last week, and it was a
successful experience. I want to thank all of
you who responded to our request to update
your email contact information and share
with us any suggestions to improve our
distribution of the electronic newsletter in
the future. For those who have not
responded, we are asking that you do so as
soon as possible. If you have lost your
update request sheet, you may pick up one
in the office or we can send one home with
your child upon request.
As we look towards next year, we will also be
exploring available web-based programs
that will make our newsletter even more
accessible to all our families. Again, thanks
for your patience through this transition
period and please continue to share your
ideas and suggestions for future
improvements.
Many of you did share good suggestions to
make the newsletter more accessible and
easier to read while still ensuring the privacy
of your email address. In the coming week,
we will be working to implement your
suggestions, including:
Kindergarten Parent Tours
We have already held our first Kindergarten
tour of the year for incoming students. We
still have two dates left, so do not miss out.
This is a great opportunity to come see the
school, and briefly observe some
kindergarten classes. The dates/times for
these tours are as follows:
Tuesday, February 11, 2014 – 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 – 10:00 a.m.

The newsletter will be sent in PDF
format;
We will be using our distribution list
as a blind copy to ensure the privacy
of everyone’s email; and
We will continue to update our
distribution list on a weekly basis as
we receive updated email from
families.

There is no school on Monday, January 20 in
recognition of Martin Luther King’s Birthday
and on Tuesday, January 21 for a
professional day for teachers.

Community Day Drop-In with Dr. Starr
On
Monday,
February
3,
2014,
Superintendent Joshua Starr will be
spending the entire day in the Bethesda
Chevy-Chase, Winston Churchill, Walter
Johnson, Richard Montgomery, Rockville,
Walt Whitman, and Thomas S. Wootton
clusters. As part of this Community Day, Dr.
Starr will hold a drop-in coffee for all
elementary school staff in these clusters at
Luxmanor Elementary School, 6201 Tilden
Lane in Rockville. The coffee will run from
7:15 to 8:15 a.m. and will be an opportunity
for staff to meet and talk with Dr. Starr in an
informal setting. I hope you will be able to
drop by and join Dr. Starr on the morning of
February 3. Other Community Day events on
February 3 will include school visits by Dr.
Starr throughout the day; an afternoon
coffee for secondary school staff in the
clusters at Walter Johnson High School from
3:15 to 4:15 p.m.; and a Town Hall meeting
for parents and community members from
7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Winston Churchill High
School.

Montgomery College Youth Programs
Montgomery College Youth Programs is
sponsoring a special one-day program at
Montgomery College for all students in
Grades 1-3. The program is “Builders of the
Future” featuring programs consisting of
experiential learning activities where you
take on the roles, personalities, expectations
and experiences of engineers, designers and
fabricators. It will be held on Saturday,
February 15 from 8:30-2:00 p.m. at Rockville
Campus of Montgomery College. A limited
amount of brochures are available in the
office
or
you
can
go
to
www.montgomerycollege.edu/wdce/youth.html.
Clothing Donations
The Health Room
is in need of extra
pants shirts socks,
etc. for girls and
boys sizes 5-12.
Students
have
accidents during
recess where they
fall in the mud or
puddles on the
playground.
If
you have any
hand-me-downs,
RCV is the perfect place for your donation.
Additional clothes in the health room would
help to speed up the process of getting the
student back to class as quickly as possible.
Having to call a parent to bring a change of
clothes can cause lengthy delays to class.
Class Pictures
We will be taking class pictures on Thursday,
January 30. Order forms will be sent home next
week in your child’s Friday folder.
Anyone interested in ordering a
class portrait, we will accept order
forms until February 7, 2014. If you
have any questions feel free to contact the main
office.

Tours para los Padres de Kindergarten
Ya hemos llevado cabo
nuestro primer tour de
Kindergarten de este año.
Todavía tenemos dos fechas, no se lo
pierdan. Esta es una gran oportunidad para

La enfermeria de
la escuela esta
necesitando
pantalones,
camisas, medias
etc.para niños y
niñas tallas 5-12.
Los estudiantes
tienen accidents
durante el recreo
donde se caen en
el barro y los
charcos en el
parquet. Si Usted tiene alguna ropa que ya
no use, RCV es el lugar perfecto para donar.
La ropa adicional en la enfermeria ayudará
