Principal’s Message
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and in addition to letting each of you know that you and your
children are my valentines each and every day that I am at RCV, I also wanted to remind you of coming
routines and celebrations that will happen at school for Valentine’s Day.
Each classroom will have a Valentine’s Day party next Friday at 2:30. This is a time to share good wishes,
kind words, friendly actions, and sweets within our class and school community. Students are invited, but
not required to exchange Valentine’s Day cards as a part of this celebration. If your child would like to do
this, we ask that you refrain from attaching or including any food products (candies, gum, etc.) with the
exchange of Valentine’s Day cards. In addition, please do not send in additional treats for the class parties
– all treats and refreshments have already been purchased through our PTA. We do this to ensure that
any student who may have a severe food allergy is not unintentionally exposed to something that may
cause a dangerous allergic reaction. Also, please do not feel that you need to purchase store-bought cards
in order to have your child participate in the classroom card exchange. Homemade cards are always
welcome and very special! Within the classroom card exchange, we ask that children give cards to all their
classmates. Teachers will be sending home class lists to ensure that you have the names of all your child’s
classmates. Beyond the classroom card exchange, students are encouraged to consider sending Valentine
cards to friends and former teachers through our school mail program. Students wanting to do this will
need to put their cards/letters into an envelope and address the envelope based on our classroom
addresses. Please see the attached directory for a list of all our classroom/teacher addresses within the
school.

Valentine’s Volunteer Luncheon
Please, if you have volunteered at RCV over the past year, and did not receive an invitation to the
luncheon, please let us know. We want to make sure that ALL of our volunteers are recognized and
appreciated.
SERT Watt’s Up? Poster Contest
Theme: Resource Conservation in Multiple Languages
Recycling and conserving energy are two easy ways we can help take care of our planet. This year share
your conservation ideas by participating in the SERT Watt’s Up Poster Contest. Create a resource
conservation poster in different languages along with English. Poster contest information can be seen on
the SERT board outside of the Media Center. Winners will be selected by the RCV SERT team. All posters
are due at RCV on February 18th. We can’t wait to see your green ideas!

The Magical Math Tour Assembly
On Tuesday, February 11, at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., Brian Curry will present “The Magical Math Tour”.
This is an assembly that makes learning math a magical experience! He will be reviewing math skills in a
way that is fun for students to learn.
Kindergarten Parent Tours
We still have two dates left for incoming kindergarten parent tours. This is a great
opportunity to come see the school, and briefly observe some kindergarten classes. The
dates/times for these tours are as follows:
Tuesday, February 11, 2014 – 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 – 10:00 a.m.

Save the Date--Grade 5 Fundraiser
Eat BBQ and support the 5th grade class!
Save the date--The fifth grade class will have a fundraiser at Urban BBQ (in the Safeway shopping center)
on Tuesday, February 11th from 5-9pm. Come and eat some great food and a portion of your bill will be
donated to support the fifth grade end-of-the-year trip and other activities.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. On these two days there
will be NO SCHOOL for current Kindergarten students. Students must be 5 on or before September 1,
2014 in order to attend school. In March we will be sending home Kindergarten Orientation packets to
parents of incoming kindergartners, with information regarding required paperwork as well as a
date/time for you to come to Rock Creek Valley ES for Kindergarten Orientation. On these days, we will
be registering your child, and your child will have the opportunity to meet the current Kindergarten
teachers, as well as have a chance to work with them. On the day of orientation you should bring with
you:


Legal Identification (such as a passport, or driver’s license) for the parent
 Proof of relationship to student
Current lease, property tax bill, OR shared housing form AND 3 pieces of mail
 Current record of immunizations for student

Mensaje de la Directora
El Día de San Valentin esta muy cerca y además de hacerle saber a Usted y a sus niños que cada uno es
mi “valentin”, los niños son mi “valentin” cada día que estoy en RCV, también quiero recordarles de las
celebraciones que ocurrirán en la escuela el Día de San Valentin.
Cada salón de clases tendrá una fiesta de San Valentin el próximo Viernes a las 2:30. Este es un momento
para compartir buenos deseos, palabras amables, acciones dulces y amigables en nuestra clase y en la
comunidad escolar. Los estudiantes estan invitados, pero no es requerido, a intercambiar tarjetas de San
Valentin como parte de esta celebración. Si a su niño le gustaría hacer esto, pedimos que se abstengan de
adjuntar o incluir cualquier comida (dulces, gomas de mascar, etc.) a las tarjetas de San Valentin. En
adición, por favor no envie dulces adicionales a la fiesta de los salones de clases – todos los dulces y
refrescos han sido comprados a través de nuestro PTA. Hacemos esto para asegurarnos que cualquier

Concurso de Poster de SERT Watt’s Up?
Tema: Conservación de Recursos en Múltiples Idiomas
Reciclar y conservar energía son dos maneras fáciles de poder cuidar nuestro planeta. Este año comparte
tus ideas de conservación participando en el Concurso de Poster de SERT Watt’s Up. Crea un poster de
conservación de recursos en diferentes idiomas junto con el Inglés. La información del Concurso de Poster
puede ser visto en el pizarrín de SERT afuera de la Biblioteca (Media Center). Los ganadores serán
seleccionados por el equipo de RCV SERT. Todos los posters deben ser entregados a RCV el 18 de Febrero.

Cambio de Escuela para el Middle School (COSA)
Si su niño esta actualmente en 5to grado en RCV y está asistiendo a esta escuela debido a COSA, Usted
tiene que reaplicar si le gustaría que él/ella vaya a Wood Middle School el próximo año. La fecha para
entregar el formulario COSA es entre el 1 de Febrero y el 1 de Abril del 2014.
Tours para Padres de Kindergarten
Nosotros ya hemos tenido nuestro primer Tour de Kindergarten este año, pero todavía
tenemos dos fechas, no se lo pierda. Esta es una gran oportunidad para venir a la escuela
y observar brevemente los salones de Kindergarten. Las fechas/horas para estos tours es
como sigue:

RESERVE EL DIA—Recaudación de Fondos del 5to Grado
Coma Barbacoa y ayude a la clase de 5to grado!
Reserve el día—Las clases de 5to Grado tendrán una recaudación de fondos en Urban BBQ (en el centro
comercial de Safeway) el Martes, 11 de Febrero de 5-9pm. Venga y coma buena comida y una porción
de su cuenta será donada a ayudar al Quinto Grado para el viaje de fin de año y otras actividades.
Orientación para el Kindergarten
La Orientación para el Kindergarten se llevará a cabo el Jueves, 8 de Mayo y Viernes, 9 de Mayo. En
estos dos días NO HABRA ESCUELA para los actuales estudiantes de Kindergarten. Los estudiantes
deben tener 5 años en o antes del 1 de Setiembre del 2014- en orden de asistir a la escuela. En Marzo se
enviará a casa los paquetes de Orientación para el Kindergarten a los padres de los Kindergarteners que
vienen el próximo año, conteniendo información acerca de los documentos que se necesitan, asi como
de la fecha y hora para que Usted venga a Rock Creek Valley ES para la Orientación del Kindergarten. En
esos días, estaremos registrando a su niño (a), y él/ella tendrá la oportunidad de conocer a los actuales
profesores de Kindergarten, asi como tendrá la oportunidad de trabajar con ellos. En el día de la
orientación, Usted deberá traer:


Identificación Legal (como el pasaporte o la licencia de conducir) del padre
 Prueba de relación con el estudiante
Contrato actual de arrendamiento, recibo de impuestos de propiedad o el formulario de casa
compartida y tres documentos apropiados
 Record actual de inmunizaciones del estudiante
