Principal’s Message
With the long awaited arrival of warmer weather, it finally feels like spring! I am writing a very short
message in this week’s newsletter that simply wishes all our RCV families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable
spring break. Take some time to enjoy the warm spring days, laugh with family and friends, read with
your children, and come back ready and rested for the final weeks of the school year!
HEARING AND VISION SCREENING
In accordance with Maryland state law, students in Montgomery County Public Schools are screened for
possible vision and hearing problems. Trained screeners will evaluate students in kindergarten and
those new to Maryland. Glasses already prescribed should be worn every day and be brought to the
screening.
You will receive a referral form to take to your child's medical provider if your child fails a screening.
If you do not wish your child to be screened at school, please notify the school nurse in writing.
Family Fun Night
It is that time again, FAMILY FUN
NIGHT at RCV. Come out on Friday,
April 25th at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy some
time with family and friends. There
will be bingo, prizes, food and treats.
Try to buy your tickets early. The
event sold out last time. The flyers have already been sent home. We will see you there!
Gift Card Fundraiser
The RCV PTA has one final chance this year to purchase gift cards. This simple fundraiser allows
you to buy gift cards at face value while the PTA earns a percentage of each sale (amount varies
by store - all amounts are listed on form). Monies raised help our PTA to do fun, educational and
necessary things for our school. Order forms are due to the RCV main office (or your child's
teacher) by Wednesday, April 23rd. This is a great opportunity to buy a Mother's Day gift or to
recognize
your
child's
teacher
at
the
end
of
the
school
year.
Pizza Night at Book Fair
Pizza Night at the Book Fair is on Tuesday, April 29th. Pizzas must be ordered in advance. Please don't
forget to return your pizza orders and payment by Friday, April 25th.
Office Hours During Spring Break
The office will be opened limited hours during Spring Break (Monday, April 14 – Thursday, April 17). If
you are planning to stop by, please call ahead to the office to ensure that someone is here to help you.
Friday, April 18 is a holiday so the office is closed.
Book Fair at Rock Creek Valley
The Book Fair will open on Friday, April 25 during Family Fun Night, and will run
from 8:45am to 4 pm Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 1. Friday, May 2,
we will be open 8:45pm until 12 noon. We will need volunteers to help set up
and run the fair, and also to help pack up. They can contact me at

Things to Do During Spring Break.
Below are a few suggestions of fun things to do with
your children during Spring Break.
Animal Parks and Zoos
Visit a variety of animals, whether you spend a day at the National Zoo, or one of the regions smaller
animal parks - Leesburg Animal Park, Reston Zoo and the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve.
Nature Centers
Spring is a great time to explore the outdoors and learn more about our environment. Visit a nature
center and attend a naturalist guided event, enjoy hands-on activities examining nature exhibits or
take a peaceful walk in the woods.

The Washington, DC area has a wide range of spring events, from cultural events to spring garden
tours to parades and more.
Pick Your Own Farms
Pick your own fruit and vegetables at a local farm and enjoy a fun outdoor activity with the kids while
gathering healthy foods for your family.

We are lucky to have wonderful museums in the Washington, DC area. Many of the museums have
special programs for kids with lots of hands-on activities.
Children’s Theatre
Take the kids to a play or puppet theatre and enjoy a family show at a children’s theater in the
Washington, DC area. Many children’s theaters in the Washington, DC area also offer drama education
programs.
Washington Nationals
Watching the all American sport is a great activity for the whole family. Washington, DC's state-of-the
art ballpark was designed to ensure a great viewing experience and entertainment for all.

Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. On these two days there
will be NO SCHOOL for current Kindergarten students. Students must be 5 on or before September 1,
2014 in order to attend school We are sending home Kindergarten Orientation packets to parents of
incoming kindergartners, with information regarding required paperwork as well as a date/time for you
to come to Rock Creek Valley ES for Kindergarten Orientation. On these days, we will be registering your
child, and your child will have the opportunity to meet the current Kindergarten teachers, as well as
have a chance to work with them. On the day of orientation you should bring with you:


Legal Identification (such as a passport, or driver’s license) for the parent
 Birth Certificate
Current lease, property tax bill, OR shared housing form AND 3 pieces of mail
 Current record of immunizations for student

Con la larga espera de la llegada de un clima más caliente, finalmente se siente la primavera! Estoy
escribiendo un mensaje corto en este boletín semanal para simplemente desear a todas nuestras
familias de RCV unas seguras, relajantes y agradables vacaciones de primavera. Tómese un tiempo para
disfrutar de los templados días de primavera, reir con la familia y amigos, leer a sus niños y regresar
listos y descansados para las últimas semanas del año escolar!
REVISION DE LA AUDICION Y LA VISTA
De acuerdo a la ley estatal de Maryland, los estudiantes en las Escuelas Públicas de Montgomery County
deben ser examinados por posibles problemas de visión y audición. Personal entrenado evaluará a los
estudiantes en Kindergarten y a los que son estudiantes nuevos en Maryland. Los lentes ya prescritos

Recaudación de Fondos de Tarjeta de Regalo
El PTA de RCV tiene una última oportunidad este año para comprar tarjetas de regalo. Esta
simple recaudación de fondos le permite comprar tarjetas de regalo al mismo costo mientras que
el PTA gana un porcentaje de cada venta (los montos varian por tienda – todos lo montons estan
enumerados en el formulario). El dinero recaudado ayuda al PTA a hacer cosas divertidas,
educacionales y necesarias para nuestra escuela. Las órdenes de compra se deben enviar a
la oficina de la escuela de RCV (o al maestro de su niño) hasta el Miércoles, 23 de
Abril. Esta es una gran oportunidad para comprar un regalo para el Día de la Madre o reconocer

La Noche de Piza en la Feria del Libro es el Martes, 29 de Abril. Las pizas serán ordenadas por

Horas de Oficina durante las Vacaciones de Primavera
La oficina estará abierta en horas limitadas durante las Vacaciones de Primavera (Lunes, 14 de Abril –
Jueves, 17 de Abril). Si Usted esta planeando visitar la escuela, por favor llame por adelantado a la
oficina para asegurarse que alguien este aqui para ayudarlo. El Viernes, 18 de Abril es feriado, por lo

Feria del Libro en Rock Creek Valley
La Feria del Libro estará abierta el Viernes, 25 de Abril durante la Noche de

Orientación para el Kindergarten
La Orientación para el Kindergarten se llevará a cabo el Jueves, 8 de Mayo y Viernes, 9 de Mayo. En
estos dos días NO HABRA ESCUELA para los actuales estudiantes de Kindergarten. Los estudiantes
deben tener 5 años en o antes del 1 de Setiembre del 2014- en orden de asistir a la escuela. En Marzo se
enviará a casa los paquetes de Orientación para el Kindergarten a los padres de los Kindergarteners que
vienen el próximo año, conteniendo información acerca de los documentos que se necesitan, asi como
de la fecha y hora para que Usted venga a Rock Creek Valley ES para la Orientación del Kindergarten. En
esos días, estaremos registrando a su niño (a), y él/ella tendrá la oportunidad de conocer a los actuales
profesores de Kindergarten, asi como tendrá la oportunidad de trabajar con ellos. En el día de la
orientación, Usted deberá traer:

Identificación Legal (como el pasaporte o la licencia de conducir) del padre
 Prueba de relación con el estudiante
 Contrato actual de arrendamiento, recibo de impuestos de propiedad o el formulario de casa
compartida y tres documentos apropiados
