Principal’s Message
With the first day of May just around the corner, we are now looking towards the final weeks of the school
year. While there is much learning yet to be done and many exciting activities planned for the remaining
weeks of school; this is also the time when we begin to look forward and make plans for next school
year. Part of that process is assignment of students into class groups. Many factors are considered when
making class placements and we value your input as parents in this process. In order to consider your
input, we have attached a brief parent input form that we encourage all of you to fill out and return prior
to May 16th. You can do this in one of two ways:


Print and complete a hard copy of the parent input form and return it to your child’s teacher or
the front office.
Complete the form electronically and email it as an attachment to your child’s current teacher,
myself, or Mrs. Bialeski (all email addresses can be found on the RCV web-site).
If there is other personal or private information which you feel should be considered when making class
placements and would like to share this with me directly; just give me a call or schedule a time to meet
with me.
HEARING AND VISION SCREENING
In accordance with Maryland state law, students in Montgomery County Public Schools are screened for possible
vision and hearing problems. Trained screeners will evaluate students in kindergarten and those new to
Maryland. Glasses already prescribed should be worn every day and be brought to the screening.
You will receive a referral form to take to your child's medical provider if your child fails a screening.
If you do not wish your child to be screened at school, please notify the school nurse in writing.

Book Fair at Rock Creek Valley
The Book Fair will open on Friday, April 25 during Family Fun Night, and will run
from 8:45am to 4 pm Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 1. Friday, May 2,
we will be open 8:45pm until 12 noon. We will need volunteers to help set up
and run the fair, and also to help pack up. They can contact me at

Parent Academy Offers New Workshops
The spring season of the MCPS Parent Academy has begun! The Parent Academy helps equip parents
with the tips and tools they need to help their children succeed. All of the workshops are free and are held
at schools and locations throughout Montgomery County. Don’t miss sessions on college entrance exams,
effective parenting strategies, cybersafety and social media, and many more topics. Childcare and
interpretation services are provided at all classes. The schedule of workshops is available at

Are You Up to the 5th Grade Challenge?
Join the MCPS Educational Foundation for a night of fun and entertainment at one of three “Are You Up
to the 5th Grade Challenge?” events in May. The events will test local celebrity contestants on their
knowledge of 5th Grade facts. Students from dozens of MCPS elementary schools will be participating.
Proceeds will directly support the mission of the MCPS Educational Foundation, which provides grants,
programs, and scholarships that improve educational opportunities for MCPS students. The “5th Grade
Challenge” events will be held:




Don’t Miss the Gaithersburg Book Festival
Montgomery County Public Schools is proud to be a partner in the 2014 Gaithersburg Book Festival (GBF)
on Saturday, May 17, on the grounds of Gaithersburg City Hall. The GBF has a great lineup of authors and
activities for children of all ages. Several members of the MCPS community will be conducting readings at
the festival and there will be many programs, workshops, and activities in the Children’s Village that are
designed to promote interest in reading and writing. Montgomery County Public Schools will also have a
booth at the event with news and information about the district and staff members who can answer your

Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. On these two days there
will be NO SCHOOL for current Kindergarten students. Students must be 5 on or before September 1,
2014 in order to attend school We are sending home Kindergarten Orientation packets to parents of
incoming kindergartners, with information regarding required paperwork as well as a date/time for you
to come to Rock Creek Valley ES for Kindergarten Orientation. On these days, we will be registering your
child, and your child will have the opportunity to meet the current Kindergarten teachers, as well as
have a chance to work with them. On the day of orientation you should bring with you:


Legal Identification (such as a passport, or driver’s license) for the parent
 Birth Certificate
Current lease, property tax bill, OR shared housing form AND 3 pieces of mail
 Current record of immunizations for student

Con el primer día de Mayo a la vuelta de la esquina, estamos mirando hacia las semanas finales del año
escolar. Mientras todavía hay mucho que aprender y muchas actividades emocionantes planeadas para
las semanas que queda de la escuela; este es también tiempo para comenzar a mirar hacia adelante y
hacer planes para el nuevo año escolar. Parte de este proceso es asignar a los estudiantes en grupos de
clases. Muchos factores son considerados cuando se hacen las colocaciones de estudiantes en clases y

REVISION DE LA AUDICION Y LA VISTA

Recaudación de Fondos de Tarjeta de Regalo
El PTA de RCV tiene una última oportunidad este año para comprar tarjetas de regalo. Esta
simple recaudación de fondos le permite comprar tarjetas de regalo al mismo costo mientras que
el PTA gana un porcentaje de cada venta (los montos varian por tienda – todos lo montons estan
enumerados en el formulario). El dinero recaudado ayuda al PTA a hacer cosas divertidas,
educacionales y necesarias para nuestra escuela. Las órdenes de compra se deben enviar a
la oficina de la escuela de RCV (o al maestro de su niño) hasta el Miércoles, 23 de
Abril. Esta es una gran oportunidad para comprar un regalo para el Día de la Madre o reconocer
al
profesor
de
su
niño
al
final
del
año
escolar.
Feria del Libro en Rock Creek Valley
La Feria del Libro estará abierta el Viernes, 25 de Abril durante la Noche de
Diversión Familiar, y funcionará de 8:45am a 4 pm del Lunes, 28 de Abril hasta el
Jueves, 1 de mayo. El Viernes, 2 de mayo, estará abierto de 8:45pm hasta el
mediodía. Nosotros necesitaremos voluntarios para ayudar a organizar y hacer

La Academia Para Padres Ofrece Nuevos Talleres
La sesión de primavera de la Academia Para Padres de MCPS ha comenzado! La Academia para Padres
ofrece a los padres una variedad de talleres que les permitirá apoyar a sus hijos para que triunfen en la
escuela. Todos los talleres son gratuitos y se realizan en escuelas a través del condado. No se pierda las

No te Pierdas el Festival del Libro de Gaithersburg
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) se enorgullece en colaborar con el Festival del Libro 2014
de Gaithersburg (Gaithersburg Book Festival-GBF), el sábado, 17 de mayo, en los terrenos de
Gaithersburg City Hall. GBF tiene un programa estupendo con autores y actividades para niños de

enviará a casa los paquetes de Orientación para el Kindergarten a los padres de los Kindergarteners que
vienen el próximo año, conteniendo información acerca de los documentos que se necesitan, asi como
de la fecha y hora para que Usted venga a Rock Creek Valley ES para la Orientación del Kindergarten. En
esos días, estaremos registrando a su niño (a), y él/ella tendrá la oportunidad de conocer a los actuales
profesores de Kindergarten, asi como tendrá la oportunidad de trabajar con ellos. En el día de la
