Principal’s Message
Week two of the new school year has flown by,
and we are well into the swing of our daily
routines and instructional program. I do want
to share with you some safety updates and
remind you of several regulations that are in
place to promote student safety at school.
1. Please adhere to the driving, parking,
and cross walk rules when
accompanying your child to and from
school. These include:
 NO PARKING in the pickup/drop-off circle. We ask that
parents adhere to this and
never leave their cars
unattended (not even for a few
minutes) in this marked
area. Already this year, we are
noticing several cars parked in
this area which creates
tremendous congestion at
arrival/dismissal and has led to
several incidents where
students are walking through
traffic in order to get to the side
walk.

Always have your child exit or
enter your car on the curb/side
walk side.
Use the marked cross walk area
to cross Russett Road. There is
a crossing guard assigned to
this location and we have also
positioned school patrols there
to assist with students crossing
Russett Road when coming to /
leaving school. Also, please use
your blinker when leaving the
parking lot – this greatly assist
the crossing guard in directing
traffic and individuals who are
using the designated cross walk
area.
2. Take seriously any reports of bullying
and please communicate with school
administration if you have any concerns
regarding an incident of bullying. While
many individual incidents of negative
interactions can be dealt with
informally, some issues are significant
enough to warrant formal
intervention. There is a system in place
that allows for parents, or other
witnesses, to formally report incidents
of bullying which will trigger a more
formal investigation and
documentation of
response/intervention. The first step in
this process is completing MCPS Form
230-35, Bullying, Harassment, or
Intimidation Reporting Form. A copy of
this has been sent home in all students’
Friday folders. You can also download a
copy of this form from the MCPS
Website or pick up a paper copy of the
form from the front office.
3. If you suspect or observe any
destructive, illegal, or suspected gangrelated behavior which takes place on
school property; please report it
immediately to school administration
by completing and submitting MCPS
Form 230-37. This form is available
from the MCPS Website or in the school
office. Please know that the safety of
all our students, staff, and families is
our first priority and we will work
closely with system administration &
security, as well as local law
enforcement to ensure that Rock Creek
Valley ES remains a safe learning
environment for everyone.
I know that you will all work in partnership with
us to ensure that these important safety
routines are maintained and that everyone
consistently adheres to these established rules.
