Principal’s Message
Shoes, shoes, shoes …
Some people say that women are obsessed with
shoes, and this week that would be true for me
also. However, my obsession is about shoes
and safety at
school. There have
been several
incidents this
week in
which
students
accidentally hurt themselves or others because
of the shoes they were wearing. While all of
the accidents only resulted in small bumps and
bruises, I wanted to share the information with
you are request that you adhere to some “shoe
rules” at RCV.
1. Students should always wear closed toe
and soft sole shoes on days when they
attend PE class.
2. Although there is not strict dress code
that prohibits students from wearing
flip flops, we ask that you consider
whether flip flops are appropriate given
your child’s interests and
Julia Bialeski, Assistant Principal
needs. Children can not participate in
certain recess activities such as kick ball
or soccer if they are wearing flip
flops. Additionally, we have had several
scraped toes this past week from
children wearing flip flops at recess
when playing jump rope, climbing on
equipment, etc.
3. Shoes with cleats are not permitted at
school.
4. If students wear shoes to school with
integrated wheels (often referred to as
“heelies”), the wheels should either be
removed when worn to school or
retracted so that students are able to
walk as they would if wearing regular
sneakers.
We do not want to exclude any students from
either recess or P.E. classes; but we are also
committed to ensuring the safety of all our
students. With this in mind, we ask that you
adhere to these “shoe rules.”
