Principal’s Message
This past Monday was another wonderful
parent visitation day at Rock Creek Valley
ES! We had over 150 parents join us to observe
in their children’s classrooms and lots of
positive experiences as they were able to join in
some of the learning activities and watch their
children hard at work learning new things. If
you have not already had a chance, please
make sure to sign up for a parent-teacher
conference. There are two half day in early
November (November 10th and 11th) that are
designated days for these
conferences. Students will be dismissed at 1:00
p.m. each day in order to allow teachers to
meet with parents and share specific
information about the performance of each
child during the first reporting period of the
school year. These opportunities to have direct
communication with your child’s teacher is a
critical foundation for on-going partnerships
that allow both teachers and parents to work
together and support learning for every
child. Also, we are still looking for parents who
might be able to support Spanish interpretation
during parent conferences. If you are a parent
who feels comfortable interpreting for a
Spanish speaking parents, please contact the
Julia Bialeski, Assistant Principal
office to let them know if you are able to
volunteer on one of the parent conference days
to serve as an informal interpreter.
Please leave balls at home:
Some concerns have been shared regarding
students bringing balls to school. These
concerns include: students playing with balls at
bus stops and running into the street to chase a
ball on several occasions, arguments over
“personal balls” being used by others at recess,
concerns about who is responsible for replacing
a ball if it is unintentionally damaged by another
student. The general rule has always been that
toys and games from home are not to be
brought to school unless there is a specific
day/request for this (for example: an earned
class party in which students are allowed to
bring in games from home). I am asking that all
parents support my request that no balls be
brought to school from home. We have a
variety of balls available to students at recess
and will make sure to purchase new balls as
needed so they are available to students during
all recess, P.E., and game activities.
