Principal’s Message
As many of you know, I try to always update parents with any staffing changes that occur at Rock Creek
Valley ES and this week I want to share with you a staffing update for second semester. Two of our fifth
grade teachers, Mrs. McNiece and Mrs. Miller, are pregnant and will be taking maternity leave in the
spring. We plan on having Mrs. McNiece go out on maternity leave first and then having Mrs. Miller go
out on maternity leave closer to the end of the school year. In working with human resources, I have
been very fortunate in identifying a teacher who will be able to fill both these long term substitute
positions. Her name is Mrs. Shayla Sturkey and she has 9 years of experience teaching in the Atlanta
area. She is extremely excited to be joining us at RCV and I think she will be an excellent addition to our
staff. Even more fortunate is the fact that permission has been granted to have her begin at RCV in
January so that she will have an extended period of time to get to know our school community and also
have a strong transition with the fifth grade team before moving into the long term substitute
positions. I know that you will join me in welcoming her to our learning community at RCV!
Another Successful Auction!
We are thrilled to report to everyone that we had another very successful auction that raised
approximately $9,000.00 to support our local summer school, continued expansion of technology, and
the overall instructional program here at RCV. Thanks to all the hard work of staff that prepared and
worked during our auction, and the tremendous generosity of our families who participated. A very
special thank you also goes out to Mr. David Goodman who is instrumental in soliciting donations from
literally around the world for this annual event – we could not possibly raise the amount of money we
have without his commitment and efforts!
