Principal’s Message
We are well underway with our preparations for the upcoming Partnership for Assessment of
Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment which is replacing the MSA tests that
were previously given in grades 3-5. This is a new assessment for all of us, but many parents
have shared a desire to learn more about PARCC before their children actually participate in the
assessment. There are several different ways that parents can gain information about these new
assessments:
 MCPS will host a parent information meeting on the new PARCC assessments on
February 2nd at Blair HS from 6:30 – 9:00. Parents will be able to hear about the
assessments and ways that MCPS is preparing for these new tests.
 Within the MCPS website, on the parent page, there are several sources of information
including a link to the PARCC website and an opportunity for parents to take a PARCC
practice test.
If you have individual questions that relate specifically to your child, such as questions about
testing accommodations, please talk with your child’s teacher directly or you are always
welcome to contact Mrs. Bialeski or me and we will try to answer any questions you may
have. As these tests are new to all of us, we continue to receive updated information each week
as we approach the time when the assessments will be given. As we receive new information,
we will continue to share updates with you through the weekly newsletter.
No Name Calling Week 2015
Hello! I would like RCV to celebrate No Name Calling Week January 26th to 30th this year.
No Name Calling Week is a National Campaign to promote kindness and it aligns very well with
our idea of “No Put Downs”.
I will make announcements each day to students to promote the week. I think it will be a great
experience for our RCV Students. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback. Thanks
for your support! –Alexandra Kissell, School Counselor

Animal Shelter Donations
Girl Scout Troop 4611 is collecting donations for the Animal Services and Adoption Center of
Montgomery County. Animals in the shelter need a nice warm bed, toys, and food while they
wait to find a permanent home. Donations can be left in the box in the atrium. The shelter
accepts a variety of donations including: food and toys for cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets and birds,
KONG toys, Temptation cat treats, peanut butter, easy cheese, ping pong balls, new or gently
used t-shirts, blankets and towels. For additional information contact Angie Carey
[email protected] or 301-949-6610.
Special Education Review
The Montgomery County Board of Education has contracted with WestEd, a national research
and service nonprofit organization, to conduct an independent review of Montgomery County
Public Schools (MCPS) special education processes. The goal of the study is to better understand
the experiences of students and their families related to IEP development, implementation, and
dispute resolution. Please see the attachment for more information.
