Parents are invited to learn more about the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for
College and Careers (PARCC) assessments at the next PARCC Night on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015.
The event is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), the Montgomery
County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA), and the Montgomery County NAACP Parents’ Council.
The event will be held at Montgomery Blair High School on Monday, Feb. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to
9 p.m. The school is located at 51 University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.
At the event, parents will learn about PARCC and how MCPS is preparing students for success
on these new assessments. Parents will have an opportunity to take sample quizzes, attend
breakout sessions and pick up grade-level information and resources. MCPS staff will be
available to answer questions.
Free child care (ages 4 and older) and foreign language interpretation will be provided.

Animal Shelter Donations
Girl Scout Troop 4611 is collecting donations for the Animal Services and Adoption Center of
Montgomery County. Animals in the shelter need a nice warm bed, toys, and food while they
wait to find a permanent home. Donations can be left in the box in the atrium. The shelter
accepts a variety of donations including: food and toys for cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets and birds,
KONG toys, Temptation cat treats, peanut butter, easy cheese, ping pong balls, new or gently
used t-shirts, blankets and towels. For additional information contact Angie Carey
[email protected] or 301-949-6610.
Special Education Review
The Montgomery County Board of Education has contracted with WestEd, a national research
and service nonprofit organization, to conduct an independent review of Montgomery County
Public Schools (MCPS) special education processes. The goal of the study is to better understand
the experiences of students and their families related to IEP development, implementation, and
dispute resolution. Please see the attachment for more information.

problems. Students will be recognized at school during a school wide clap out MONDAY

for your support and we look forward to celebrating our peacemakers.
Attention Grade 5 parents: This week we had a visit from the 6th Grade Counselor from Wood

for their sixth grade year. Students brought home a one sheet document this week to fill out
select their elective classes for the 2015-2016 school year. Please look over this information with
your child and send the completed form back to school with your signature by February 6th.
