Principal’s Message
They say that only two things in life are guaranteed – death and taxes. Well, I think that for
those of us in Montgomery County; there are two additional things that are guaranteed – snow
and testing! Just when I thought the final snow day was behind us, once again we experienced
first a delay and then an ultimate closing of school on Thursday. I know that everyone has had
to make schedule adjustments due to the snow, and this is no different at school. Please know
that teachers work very hard to maintain instructional routines, but there are times when
things must be adjusted due to unexpected emergencies like the recent delayed openings and
school closings due to snow. Changes in routines also occur during times of testing, such as the
PARCC testing that will be happening for all students in grades 3-5 in the coming weeks. During
these days of testing, many staff are needed to serve as test examiners, proctors,
accommodators, etc. This can often require re-assigning staff to new roles during a testing
session. Again, we work very hard to maintain consistent routines, but we want you to know
that your child make experience some schedule changes in the coming weeks if particular staff
are needed to support testing (for example: a change to the media schedule if Mrs. Lawrence is
needed to support testing, or a different Para-Educator working in your child’s class while the
regular Para-Educator provides for an individual accommodation for a student in testing). I am
sharing our testing schedule below so that you are aware of when your child will be testing, but
also so that you have a sense of when some of these schedule changes may take place.
March 2-5: All grade 5 classes, Mr. Belfont’s class, Ms. Perez’s class, and Ms. Amsellem’s class
will be involved in testing
March 9-13: All grade 3 classes and Ms. Chin’s class will be involved in testing
Our planned schedule is for students to test each day in the morning. If there is a delayed
opening the students scheduled to participate in testing that afternoon. If your child is
scheduled for testing, please make sure that they arrive at school on tine and well rested. If
your child is sick and must miss a day of testing, staff will schedule an individual time with your
child to complete the missed testing session. If you have any questions about the upcoming
testing, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Bialeski directly.

Kindergarten Is Coming!
Are you are the parent of a child who will be turning 5 before September 1st? If so, it’s time to start
thinking about kindergarten in the fall. Each year, we welcome incoming kindergartens to RCV. It is a
very exciting time as students throughout our community begin their school careers at RCV. There are
some important dates that we want to make you aware of:
A Voluntary Parent Tour will happen March 10th. This is an opportunity for parents to come and see the
school and hear a little bit about the kindergarten instructional program. The tour lasts for about 30-40
minutes and begins at 10:00 a.m. If you are interested in coming, please call the front office (301-4602195) and let us know so that we can make plans for the size of the group.
Kindergarten Orientation will be happening on April 16th and 17th. This is a time when parents sign up
for a specific appointment to bring their child in for orientation activities and registration. Each session
lasts approximately one hour and all incoming kindergarteners are strongly encouraged to participate in
orientation. Again, please call the front office (301-460-2195) to register for a specific date and time for
orientation. Prior to your scheduled orientation appointment, you will receive a packet of registration
information that will let you know what forms and documentation are needed for registration.
If you are not the parent of an incoming kindergarten student, but know of someone in the
neighborhood who will have a child eligible for kindergarten next year, please share this information
with them.
RCV Parent Teacher Basketball Game
Friday, March 13, 2015 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm
The RCV Parent Teacher Basketball Game needs parents who would enjoy participating in a fun,
less competitive game. We also need a few volunteers to help on the night of the game. And of
course we would love to have a big crowd of students and parents to fill the gym and enjoy the
event with the RCV faculty and staff. Please contact Ray Hodges ([email protected]
or 443-370-3219) if you are interested in playing or volunteering.
