Principal’s Message
Friday is the first day of spring … really?! Even with the last final gasp of snow, we are actually
entering spring. In the coming weeks, we will (finally) be getting back outside for outdoor
recess and there are just a few reminders for everyone:
1. If you think that your child has lost an item of winter clothing (coat, hat, etc.), please
take a few minutes to stop by our lost and found items that are hung on coat hooks
inside and directly outside our all-purpose room. Each year, we have many items that
have been left behind and we can to return as many as possible to their rightful homes.
2. As the weather gets warmer, there are more opportunities for students to run and
engage in active play outside (through PE classes and recess). While many of our
students like to wear flip flops, it is not always possible for students to participate in the
full range of physical activities without closed toed shoes. Please consider this as the
weather get warmer and students are able to play outside.
3. Mark your calendars now, field day is coming! May 22, 2015. Fliers with details will be
coming home soon!
4. If your child experiences seasonal allergies, please know that they are still expected to
participate in outside activities. If you feel that the allergies are so severe that this is
not possible, we must have a note from a doctor indicating that your child must be
restricted to indoor activities.

Quarter 3 Peacemaker Assembly
Students who were selected as Peacemakers in the month of January, February, and March will
be recognized during a school wide assembly Thursday, March 26th at 9:30 am. Please note:
This is a time change from what information was provided to parents at the beginning of the
year! Parents will be invited to come participate in the assembly if your child was selected as a
Peacemaker in one of those months. This quarter students are being recognized for “Using
Thoughtful Words to Solve Problems”. We look forward to celebrating our students!
Kindergarten Is Coming!
Are you are the parent of a child who will be turning 5 before September 1st? If so, it’s time to start
thinking about kindergarten in the fall. Each year, we welcome incoming kindergartens to RCV. It is a
very exciting time as students throughout our community begin their school careers at RCV.
Kindergarten Orientation will be happening on April 16th and 17th. This is a time when parents sign up
for a specific appointment to bring their child in for orientation activities and registration. Each session
lasts approximately one hour and all incoming kindergarteners are strongly encouraged to participate in
orientation. Please call the front office (301-460-2195) to register for a specific date and time for
orientation. Prior to your scheduled orientation appointment, you will receive a packet of registration
information that will let you know what forms and documentation are needed for registration.
If you are not the parent of an incoming kindergarten student, but know of someone in the
neighborhood who will have a child eligible for kindergarten next year, please share this information
with them.
