The Eagle’s Eye Rock Creek Valley Elementary School 5121 Russett Road, Rockville, MD 20853 (301) 460-2195 Fax (301) 460-2196 March 27, 2015 Catherine Jasperse, Principal Julia Bialeski, Assistant Principal Principal’s Message This week, I would like to provide you with a staffing update as we enter into the voluntary and involuntary transfer season within MCPS. It is with mixed emotions that I share with you the most recent updates. Both Linda Gallahorn, one of our Para-Educators at RCV, and Cecilia Wett, a DHOH teacher in our Pre-K Program, will be retiring at the end of the school year. Both of these women have been an important part of the history of RCV as they have worked with our children for many years and are invaluable members of our staff. They have touched the lives of so many children and will leave behind a legacy of service to our community at RCV. While we are sad to see them go, we are also excited for the opportunities and experiences retirement will bring to their lives. The other staffing update is to let you know that Julia Bialeski, our assistant principal, has bee selected to join to principal intern program for the coming school year. She will be placed as a principal intern at Beverly Farms ES for this next step in her professional development in anticipation of her future role as a principal within MCPS. It has been both my professional and personal pleasure to work with Julia over the past two years. To say that she has been a wonderful partner is an understatement -- she has brought energy, new ideas & skills, and passion to our administrative team. This is an exciting time in her professional career and I know that I speak for all our staff when I say, "Way to go, Julia!" I also know that we will all miss her at RCV. Kindergarten Is Coming! Are you are the parent of a child who will be turning 5 before September 1st? If so, it’s time to start thinking about kindergarten in the fall. Each year, we welcome incoming kindergartens to RCV. It is a very exciting time as students throughout our community begin their school careers at RCV. Kindergarten Orientation will be happening on April 16th and 17th. This is a time when parents sign up for a specific appointment to bring their child in for orientation activities and registration. Each session lasts approximately one hour and all incoming kindergarteners are strongly encouraged to participate in orientation. Please call the front office (301-460-2195) to register for a specific date and time for orientation. Prior to your scheduled orientation appointment, you will receive a packet of registration information that will let you know what forms and documentation are needed for registration. If you are not the parent of an incoming kindergarten student, but know of someone in the neighborhood who will have a child eligible for kindergarten next year, please share this information with them. Spring Break Spring break is April 3-10, Students return to school on April 13!
