mandatory countywide testing in reading
levels will be taking part of some
and mathematics. The testing helps us
better serve your child by providing
additional information when planning for
their instruction. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact your
child’s teacher. We will be sending home
results from the testing toward the end of
February.
On February 19th, we will have our 11th
annual RCV auction at our school. This is
a great event to have our RCV community
come together and raise funds to support
the needs of our students. Admission will
be free and we will have many great items
for our silent and live auction. More
information will be coming in the next
couple of weeks. We hope all families, past
and present, can join us for the event.
Please continue to let us know if you have
any questions, concerns, or celebrations!

11th Annual Rock Creek Valley Auction
We are still in search of great items to be part of our Live Auction during the event. Do you
have a connection to sporting tickets, vacation rentals, airfare vouchers, etc...? Typically, these
items bring great value to raising funds for our students. If so, please contact Mr. Burns within
the next few weeks. Thank you!
Open Gym
Open Gym was a big hit last year, so there is going to be an open gym at RCV on Sunday,
January 31st from 1-4 pm in the gym. As the cold weather is upon us, you might want a place
that your child can come out and stretch his/her legs. A parent must accompany students and a
liability release needs to be filled out the day of the open gym.
No Name Calling Week 2016
RCV is going to celebrate No Name Calling Week January 19th to 22ndth this year!
No Name Calling Week is a National Campaign to promote kindness and it aligns very well
with our school wide philosophy of “No Put Downs”. It is sponsored by an organization called
GLESN. There is more information at: http://glsen.org/nonamecallingweek
Classes will be celebrating the week in a variety of ways! Below is a description of each day
and the activities students will have an opportunity to participate in:
Tuesday January 19th
No name calling day: Wear your shirt backwards to say you turn your back on
name calling.
Each class will come up with a “no name calling” sentence or slogan to be read
during announcements.
Wednesday January 20th
Put Up Challenge:
Each student will engage in writing put up or compliments to others in their class!
This will be done in a super exciting way J …. Ask your child about it!
Thursday January 21st
Kindness Day:
Classes will add to a kindness garden in the atrium. Each class will be given flower
cut out’s to write or draw one thing they can do to be kind to someone.
Friday January 22nd
Include Others Day:
Wear your peace shirt or a blue shirt to promote peace and including each other!
Classes should make a poster that can hang outside of their class of how they plan
to include others! One poster from each grade level will be chosen as the winner!
Thanks so much for your support of the week and the Peace Program here at RCV! If you have
any questions please contact Alexandra Kissell, our school
counselor, [email protected] or by calling the school.
