Review of Authorizations and Amendments - Summary by Dan Harlan: Amendments consist of 1 room change, and 1 increase of possession limits for U-235 to accommodate transfer of samples from USC. Note: U-235 is a “special nuclear material” (SNM) and thus requires reporting the transfer to the US NRC, and verifying OSU does not exceed our allowable inventory of SNM, both tasks were completed. Initial Approvals includes two shipboard uses, one ECD and one x-ray authorization to accommodate short-term use of a handheld x-ray device for x-ray fluorescence studies. Note: the shipboard use includes authorizing work onboard the U of Delaware research vessel R/V Sharp. This work is conducted by an OSU researcher, UD requires isotope users onboard the Sharp to provide their licensing authority. The study locations are in international waters off the New England coast. License reciprocity was obtained from NRC for this work. The other shipboard work is continuation of research performed by UCSD researchers this summer onboard OSU’s ship R/V Oceanus. By agreement with UCSD Radiation Safety, this work is conducted under the UCSD California Radioactive Materials License. This agreement is a new process for OSU which facilitated transfer of material and authorization in California waters. The agreement was approved by the OSU RSC Chair, RSO and UCSD RSO. The EC Minutes were approved by email vote. ALARA Report 2nd Qtr. 2015 - Dan Harlan Summary: no significant changes quarter-to-quarter over the last year.
