CHAPTER
1
Introduction
This document introduces the 9.0(1) release of the Cisco Unified Intelligence Center software.
This is a major release that follows the 8.5(4) maintenance release in March 2012.
Release 9.0(1) is offered for new deployments and upgrades from Release 8.0(1), 8.0(2), 8.0(3), 8.0(4),
8.5(2), 8.5(3), and 8.5(4).
For detailed instructions for installing and upgrading to Cisco Unified Intelligence Center Release 9.0(1),
see the Cisco Unified Intelligence Center Installation and Upgrade Guide.
The localized Unified Intelligence Center is currently available and the localized version of documentation
will be available with the next maintenance release.

New and Changed Information
Multicollection
Unified Intelligence Center supports selection of multiple collections.
Daily-Weekly-Monthly Groupings
Unified Intelligence Center supports Daily-Weekly-Monthly groupings and the Summary Only option in the
grid view.
Relative Dates
Unified Intelligence Center supports Relative Dates for anonymous blocks and stored procedures.
Automatic Data Source Failover
Unified Intelligence Center supports Automatic Data source failover.
Simplification of User Permissions
Unified Intelligence Center supports simplification of user permissions
In Unified Intelligence Center 8.x releases, a three-level permissions scheme had Read, Execute, and Write
permissions. In Unified Intelligence Center 9.0(1), the permissions scheme has been simplified into two levels:
Execute and Write. The Read permission is now incorporated into the Execute permission.
In Unified Intelligence Center 8.x releases, if users had only Read permission to a resource, they were able
to view the resource in the resource-tree views or list views, but were unable to perform any operation on the
resource. On upgrade to Unified Intelligence Center 9.0(1), such users will no longer be able to view the
resource in tree views and list views unless the administrator explicitly grants Execute or Write permission
to such users.
Note
Release Notes for Cisco Unified Intelligence Center, Release 9.0(1)
2
Introduction
New and Changed Information
• Only users who have the Security Administration role will be able to share the resources they own with
the All Users group.
• Users with the All Users default group will not have any sharing permissions unless they have the
Security Administration role.
• The preceding two conditions also apply to new users created from the User List page.
• Users who only had Read permissions to a category before upgrading to release 9.0(1) will not be able
to see the category after upgrading unless the category owner provides them with Execute permission.
Simplified Login
Unified Intelligence Center supports a Simplified Login that allows the user to log in easily using a short
name, such as johndoe, and email format, such as [email protected], instead of using long and complex
domain names and usernames.
LDAP implementation has been modified in 9.0(1) to use the user provided identifiers to log into LDAP.
For more information, see the Configure Active Directory server section of Administration Console User
Guide for Cisco Unified Intelligence Center.
As a result, when you upgrade, Unified Intelligence Center tries to read the existing user names in the system
and use that to automatically populate the username identifiers into the configured identifiers list.
However, if any inactive or old users still exist in the system, their username identifiers are also populated
into this list.
Administrators are advised to review this list, so that the type and number of users logging into the system
can be locked down.
Note
The userPrincipalName attributes cannot be auto calculated by the upgrade. Hence, all the LDAP
configurations using userPrincipalName will fail to login unless a valid username identifier is configured
by the Administrator on the Login page after upgrade.
Access Control Reports
Unified Intelligence Center supports Access Control reports that provide reports about users and groups that
use Unified Intelligence Center resources such as Dashboards and Reports.
For more information, see Chapter 2 of the Report Template Reference Guide for Cisco Unified Intelligence
Center.
ESXi 5.0
Unified Intelligence Center supports ESXi 5.0.
Internet Explorer 9.0 and Firefox 11
Unified Intelligence Center supports Internet Explorer 9.0 and Firefox 11.

Introduction
System Requirements
System Requirements
The Hardware and System Software Specification (Bill of Materials) for Cisco Unified Intelligence Center
is posted on the Cisco.com website. You can find the Cisco Unified Communications Compatibility Tool for
the various Cisco Unified Communications System (UCS) releases at:
http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/vtgsca/VTGServlet.
Important Notes
Upgrading VMware Tools
This process of upgrading VMware tools is applicable only for Unified Intelligence Center Systems running
on Unified Communications System virtualized hardware. VMware Tools are specialized drivers for virtual
hardware that are installed in the Unified Communications (UC) applications when they are running in the
virtualized environment. The VMware tools version running in the UC application must be in sync with the
version of ESXi being used. The methods that the UC applications use to upgrade the VMware Tools are
given in the UCS Virtualization Wiki.
Cisco Unified Intelligence Center supports upgrading VMware Tools using the command: utils vmtools
upgrade.
To know more about the command syntax, see “Appendix A: Command Line Interface” in the Administration
Console User Guide for Cisco Unified Intelligence Center.
Localization
The user interface is localized in the following languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch,
English, European and Canadian French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese,
Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Turkish.
Open Caveats in This Release
This section contains a list of defects that are currently pending in Unified Intelligence Center Release 9.0(1).
Defects are listed by component and then by identifier.
If you have an account with Cisco.com, you can use the Bug Toolkit to find caveats of any severity for any
release. Bug Toolkit may also provide a more current listing than is reflected in this document. To access the
Bug Toolkit, log onto http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/launch_bugtool.pl.
