MULTIDATABASE CASE
Electronic Health
OBJECTIVE
• To implement distributed database design
in real case  Electronic Health
• The demand of computerized information
systems in health network with regard to
hardware and software
Overview some problem in
medical informatics
• Each hospital or even each department in
a hospital keeps its own patient records
and it is difficult to access them, even if
they are computerized
• The access might perhaps be required
years after the acquisition of the
information
• There’s general lack of coordination,
integration and direction in current efforts
to applying computing in health networks.
Some Dichotomies of medical
informatics
• The cost of an approach must always be
compared with the value of applying it
• System must avoid being impersonal,
demands the management of a large
amount of detailed information
• It’s costly added value to obtain caseoriented entities such as patients in more
detailed representation
The Electronic Health
• The ability to provide accurate, timely
information to authorized health providers
will improve health care delivery
• Such system, will be dependent on
accurate linking of data from disparate
healthcare database
• Where multiple database at different
location are involved, integrity of content is
difficult to achieve.
The Health information Network
The objective :
• Reduce the need for and duration of, treatment
of patients by good prevention method and early
diagnoses
• Increase the effectiveness of treatment
• Relieve professionals and other workers in care
unit of information processing
• Enhance the exploitation of resources available
• Archive clinical data, facilitate the compilation of
medical statistics, support research for the
diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Information flow in health care
network
• Advances in medical science and management
have created an entirely new system of health
care based on managed care model.
• Within this model, care is provided by a
collective process, such as nursing
professionals, consulting physicians, clinician,
lab technician, diagnostic technology and
administrative staff
• Health care is “wholistic” in approach
encompassing many health care organization
both public and private

Districts
In a typical network composed of such a collections of care units,
quite extensive collections of computerized information processing
systems are to be found running on variety of computer
configuration with variations between their system software :
DBMS, OS, file handling, etc
