What:
10,000 Montgomery County Public School 2nd graders attend the first Community
Preview of the new Music Center at Strathmore presented by Strathmore, National
Philharmonic and Montgomery County Public Schools This event is sponsored by the
Discovery Channel.
Strathmore holds its first community preview in the Concert Hall with a program by the
National Philharmonic featuring Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, Villa Lobos’ Little Train
of Caipira (all 1,700 children in attendance per concert will perform synchronized hand
motions along with this piece), Russell Peck’s The Thrill of the Orchestra (Mr. Peck will
narrate), and a concerto performance by one of the three local high-school student
winners of the National Philharmonic/Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras Concerto
Competition.

Tuesday-Thursday, December 7-9, 2004

To celebrate the February opening of Montgomery County’s new cultural landmark, the
Music Center at Strathmore, Strathmore first opens its doors to the future music appreciators
and performers: the children of Montgomery County.

Parking:
Parking is available in the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro garage; entrance
is located on Tuckerman Lane off the Rockville Pike. Equipment drop-off can be arranged.
