Cisco MXE 3500, v3.5 Migration Revised: October, 2015 Cisco MXE 3500, v3.5 Migration EDCS-NO 1505149 MXE 3500, v3.5 will be released with windows server 2012 R2 standard Operating System and with RHEL 6.5. Users can migrate to v3.5 with the help of backup and restore facility. Following are the use cases for system migration: Note • Run backup on the existing system. • Installation of MXE 3500 v3.5 using USB. • ESXi Network Configuration. • Restore the backup data. For Resource Node (RN), only Second and Third use case (above) will be applicable. This section includes the following topics: 1. Cisco MXE 3500, v3.5 Migration, page 1 2. Migration Procedure for RM, page 2 Prerequisites for MXE 3500, v3.5 Installation Following are the prerequisites required for MXE 3500, v3.5 installation: • USB installer or image file. Americas Headquarters: Cisco Systems, Inc., 170 West Tasman Drive, San Jose, CA 95134-1706 USA Hardware Supported for Migration Note Separate 16GB USB or image file is available for RM and RN installation. • One IP address for MXE3500 and one IP address for ESXi. • vSphere client 5.5 • Latest version of Quick Time Installer. Hardware Supported for Migration • Note MXE v3.3.x (M2 and M3). Make sure the box is raid configured; else MXE 3.5 installation and USB may get corrupt. To check the raid configuration, refer the raid configuration document (EDCS-1471323). Migration Procedures Following are the migration procedures for Resource Manager (RM) and Resource Node (RN): Migration Procedure for RM Take the back up of an existing data Installing MXE 3500, v3.5 through USB or image file ESXi Configuration MXE IP Configuration Restore the backup data Migration Procedure for RN Installing MXE 3500, v3.5 through USB or image file ESXi Configuration MXE IP Configuration Note Before taking backup of MXE3500, v3.3.x, capture the IP address, host name, DNS, and NTP details from the box containing MXE release v3.3.x [Both RM & RN]. Take the back up of an existing data Step 1 Login to the MXE UI with the following url: http://<ip>/mxeui/ Step 2 Enter the user name as admin and password. A pop-up will appear. Click OK to start the backup. Login to the Pulse UI using the following url: https://<mxeip>/pulse. 2. Enter the username as ncpadmin and password. Do not save the file within MXE 3500, as all the data will be lost during upgradation. Figure 8 Note Pulse Vocabulary If migrating to the different hardware, restore the original IP Address, Network Mask and Default Gateway, of the hardware containing MXE 3500, v3.5. Shutdown the system. Installing MXE 3500, v3.5 through USB or image file Step 1 Plug in the USB device into the hardware and reboot the system. Step 2 Press F6 key to enter in the boot menu. Step 3 Select the USB device, and go to the step 4. Note Refer the section a and b, if installing through image file using CIMC KVM where BIOS version is 1.x and refer section c, d and e, if installing through image file using CIMC KVM where BIOS version is 2.x. Figure 11 Boot Menu c). Using CIMC KVM BIOS 2.0.3, the MXE image can be browsed and mapped using Virtual Media -> Map Removable Disk. After selecting the image file, check the Read Only option and then click the Map Device. Figure 12 Virtual Media d). On CIMC Web UI, Server ->BIOS option, update the Configure Boot Order option and set the VMKVMHDD as the first boot order. For Resource Manager (RM), select the MXE 3500-v3.5-RM installer on MXE 3500, v3.5 boot menu. Figure 14 MXE3500-v3.5-RM Installer It will start MXE 3500, v3.5 installation. (b). For Resource Node (RN), select the MXE 3500-v3.5-RN installer on MXE 3500, v3.5 boot menu. Note There are mainly two stages of installation process: • Pre-installation: Installation of the ESXi host on device and copying the software bundle that may take up to 1 hour. • Post installation: Extraction of the two VMOS after auto-reboot of the system. It may take up to 20 minutes. Figure 16 MXE UI On successful installation, system will power down. Note Below step is applicable only for installation using image where CIMC BIOS version is 2.0.3. Cisco MXE 3500, v3.5 Migration OL-24509-01 11 Migration Procedures After completion of the Pre- installation process, the image should be unmapped to the device (After Pre-installation, device will reboot. Uncheck the mapped image, as shown below in the screen shot). Note Neglect the message or warning in KVM Console. Figure 17 Note Virtual Media System will reboot. It may take some time for the welcome screen to appear. Step 2 Enter the user name and the password. Note Step 3 Default user name is root and password is change_it. Select the Configure Management Network option and press Enter. Step 6 Select the NCOS -> Console tab. Step 7 Enter the default user name and password. Note The user name is admin and password is change_it. Click OK The IP address should be same as MXE 3500, v3.3.x IP address. If you are migrating from a different hardware, shutdown the previous machine in order to avoid IP conflict. Step 14 Select the Exit System option. Under Local Output section, Local Output Directory must be c:\temp and Use Local Output for Encoders check-box must be Checked. See the highlighted section of Figure 47System Settings Administration. Step 6 Go to the Tools -> Upload License sub-tab to upload a new license provided by the licensing team. Note Provide the new and old host ID to the licensing team to request a new MXE License. Restore the pulse-vocab (applicable for pulse users only) Step 1 Note Launch pulse UI with the following URL: https://<mxe-ip>/pulse. The default username and password is ncpadmin and change_it. Step 3 Click the Vocabulary tab; click upload pulse vocabulary; Browse for the backup vocabulary file if any and then click the Submit button. Figure 50 Update Configurations Windows Activation Windows Activation can be performed in two ways: 1. Activating Directly using Internet. 2. Activating using phone [Internet is not available]. Cisco MXE 3500, v3.5 Migration OL-24509-01 27 Windows Activation Activating Directly using Internet Following are the procedures of Windows Activation using Internet: Note Step 1 Internet should be accessible from your Machine, in-case your LAN supports the Internet access or either you have a proxy server for your LAN. Enable Internet on Windows. a. Disable the Firewall. Administrative Tools -> Windows Firewall with Advanced Security-> Windows Firewall Properties, make the Firewall state off. Figure 51 b. Step 2 Verify through browser (IE), whether you can access Internet. Go to Server Manager -> Local Server. On Product ID, click the link ‘Not Activated’. Note Figure 58 Installation ID Figure 59 Confirmation ID After you provide your Windows Installation ID, you will get a Confirmation ID. Enter the Confirmation ID and click Activate Windows button. You will get a message ‘Thanks, you are all done’. You can see at Product ID with the activated message on Server manager ->Local Server.
