Welcome to the 2015 school year at Rocky Hill Middle School. I am Mr. Conley and will be your
student’s teacher for the Alternative Class. Criteria and expectations for the class are below. You can
expect a grade sheet to come home every two weeks (see attached) and I will ask for parents to sign
and return to ensure you have seen your student’s progress and grades. During the month of
September I will also call and check-in with all families to ensure our students are off to a great start.

ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Purpose- The purpose of the alternative program at Rocky Hill Middle School is to improve the
academic success of students and foster the development of appropriate academic and social skills.
Services
Academic Support and Attendance Monitoring
Alternative Teacher Responsibilities
Visit students in their classes
Monitor academic and behavioral data
Communicate with parents
Communicate with grade level teams
Entry Criteria
Academic failure
High levels of difficulty staying on task in the classroom
High levels of difficulty completing homework and class work assignments
Students who do not receive special education services
Organizational problems
High absentee rate
High behavioral referral rate/ Multiple suspensions
Exit Criteria
Consistent academic and behavior improvement
Students maintaining a C average in their academic classes
Students that are not chronically receiving behavior referrals or being suspended
Administrative approval
Program Expectations for Students
No Referrals or detentions
C or better grade point average
Regular attendance
Display core values of PRIDE
Meet with the Alternative Teacher as needed
Communicate their needs to ensure academic success
