PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

RATIONALE
Rocky Hill Middle School provides many
opportunities for students to remediate
academic skills and receive academic
support. The specific concerns occur
when many of the students who are in
need of support, may not choose to take
advantage of the additional supports
afforded them. They may only do well for
inconsistent periods of time, and when an
adult provides the external support,
motivation, or incentive. They may fail
when the supports are removed or they
need to self-monitor their success. The
need for an alternative program of support
is evident.
TARGET GROUP
The Alternative Program is designed to
service seventh and eighth grade students
who are currently “At-Risk” for
performing below their academic potential.
The program will serve approximately 8-10
students per class who possess average to
above average ability and have not worked
to their academic potential in school. The
model is designed to implement changes in
student behavior patterns and foster selfesteem. It is not designed to remediate.


not only act, but also dream, not only
