A check-in is completed every two weeks with all teachers of
Alternative students. Teachers offer feedback on missing
assignments or areas of improvement.
Each week during the Alternative class a 10-20 minute lesson
(everyday) is presented on different topics (comprehension
activities, BCR writing, current events, math skills, writing, and/or
appropriate social skills)
The next 30-45 min. is spent on assignments from other classes.
If the student does not have 30-40 minutes of work from the other
classes they are to complete an extension activity form the earlier
lesson. They may also choose to read or work on a FASTT math
program on the computer.
This is also a time for students to read (novels, small texts,
newspapers).
Incentives
If students work with due diligence throughout the week they may earn a 30
minute block of “free time.” This may be outside, in the gym or in the
classroom. Activities include- soccer, basketball, football (touch), checkers,
Mancala, 24 Challenge, Bananagrams, Scrabble, listening to music). Students
not earning the time may not participate and will reflect on how to improve
for the following week.
