Description
Accent is a co-ed a cappella group that will concentrate on popular
music in tight harmonies so popular on college campuses today. It
will complement our present all male and female groups. Rehearsals
are held at various times.
The mission of Ascend is to facilitate an atmosphere that allows
students to be transformed and equipped so that they may walk out
the great commission of Jesus according to the unique callings over
their lives. We aim to create a community of authentic and
meaningful relationships. We believe this will happen as we learn
how to operate not only within the local church but also outside of
the church, in the local community. We want art to be one of the
facets that we use to connect with students.
Age Quod Agis, the Richard Montgomery chapter of the National
English Honor Society, strives to recognize students for their
excellence in English language and literature. Also, Age Quod Agis
is dedicated to providing cultural stimulation, fostering literacy, and
encouraging interest in the English Language Arts.
We aim to encourage girls to pursue their interests in the fields of
computer science or technology. Every week, we will learn about
fun and exciting CS topics like coding languages, tech news,
algorithms, career paths, and much more!
The American Sign Language Club strives for three goals: Raising
awareness for sign language, teaching American sign language, and
learning about deaf culture. With these goals we hope that everyone
will have a fun learning experience with sign language.
Students will discuss human rights violations around the world and
how to stop them. Money will be raised and then donated to the
organization Amnesty International.

science events as they come up.
We raise awareness about autism by doing autism-related
volunteering opportunities such as the Montgomery Arc, PEP
program, and Autism 5k run. We will be fundraising throughout the
year, volunteering (SSL hours!), and planning how to raise awareness
especially in April, which is Autism Awareness Month.
Small Gym Badminton club will offer a chance for both casual and more serious
players to hone their skills and play with friends. We will participate
in badminton skills practice, tournament play and also host an open
bracket tournament.

week to discuss books that are now considered classics but were once
considered anarchic—blasphemous—corrupt—unfit for public

The Math Honor Society is a group of students committed to
promoting math in the Richard Montgomery High School community.
The society provides peer tutoring for all levels of math from Algebra
I through Calculus during lunch. They also organize school-wide
events designed to promote math awareness, including a celebration of
Pi-Day on March 14th each year.
The Math Team participates in math competitions against other
schools in Montgomery County. These competitions occur on
Wednesdays between September and February. On weeks when
competitions are not scheduled, the team meets to work on practice
questions and review questions from previous competitions.
Major philosophical issues related to metaphysics, epistemology,
ethics, and political philosophy are explored through student to student
dialogue. Do explore aspects of the medical field, including different
disciplines, higher institutions, and host speakers in various areas of
medicine.
The Mock Trial Club will be a fun and interactive way to give students
a better understanding of how the court system works. We will start
the year off by learning the basic procedures of the court system, and
then we will break off into teams for our own trial. This club will be a
great way for students to show their passion for law!
The Model Congress Club attends conferences where students
participate in a congressional simulation. Students are able to debate
over topics they are passionate about and work together to pass
meaningful legislation.

Poetry Club is a place for poets of all skill levels to meet one another.
The group will discuss/explore written and performance poetry, and
help members craft their own voices. The main goal of the group is to
grow the presence of poetry in our school community.
We are a group of students who will meet to explore poetry writing.
We will discuss poetry and members can share what they have written.
We will also play word games as a way to explore language.
We play ping pong every other Monday in the dance studio at lunch
The Queer Rights Club is a safe zone for LGBTQ and any other
victims of bullying and a forum for LGBTQ discussion and education
as well as a center for local and global LGBTQ activism at RMHS.
Red Cross Club does humanitarian aid projects and volunteer work
through the Red Cross. Things we’ve done in the past include sending
cards to soldiers overseas, collecting funds for natural disasters,
making cookies for families of children who are undergoing cancer
treatment at NIH for the holidays, collecting school materials for less
fortunate students at local elementary schools. We also assist SGA in
the blood drive.
Red Paws is a club entirely dedicated to raising money for animal
rescue organizations. From bake sales and dog washes, to collecting
donations and selling candy, we are determined to donate as much
money as we can to animal rescue organizations all over the world, in
an effort to save, protect and spread the love for animals.

Description
Relay for Life is an event, like many others, through which students
and staff raise money for cancer awareness and research. However,
what makes this event so unique is the fun-filled, rewarding, overnight
experience participants enjoy. We are currently looking to create a
team at Richard Montgomery High School that can compete at a local
event such as the Clarksburg one. We eventually hope to garner
enough interest to hold the event at RM itself.
Richard Montgomery High School’s all female a capella group.
Rho Kappa is a national honors society dedicated to recognizing
excellence amongst high school students in social studies. Through
tutoring and other enrichment activities, Rho Kappa members assist
other students in reaching their full potential in social studies
coursework.
The RM Film Production club will meet to try and improve the
production skills of students. Students will make short videos with
focus on editing, and cinematography techniques. The hope is to have
a film festival by the end of the year to showcase student talent.
Come with your friends on organized group hikes. We find beautiful
parks and trails to explore. We will probably plan monthly hikes and
meet once a month to discuss the details of our next hiking excursion.
Like to juggle? Want to learn? Come join us on Wednesday or
Thursday at lunch in Mr. Chase’s room (319). We guarantee you’ll
learn to juggle in one lunch period! We also welcome all other
manipulative arts—come and bring your diablo, devil stick, footbag,
unicycle, boxes, or kendama.

Salt and Light Club is designated to reflect the light of Jesus Christ
into the lives of others. This is accomplished through prayer, studying
the Bible, and connecting with the community with service projects.
Our intention is to spread the love of God, empower students to walk
in faith, and share the experiential truth of the Gospel.
RM’s SERT has 3 main goals: to reduce waste, to innovate recycling,
and to raise environmental awareness. Throughout the year, SERT
participates in different eco-friendly activities and learns about new
ways to protect our environment, which we then share with others
through community events. Our hope is that by starting at RM, we
can make MCPS even greener! Our motto is “unless someone like
you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
Science Club promotes interest in science within Richard Montgomery

The Richard Montgomery High School Shakespeare Club is a
performing theatre troupe that operates under the direction of two
student leaders in producing an annual Shakespearean play. In
previous years, we have performed at the Folger Shakespeare
Library’s Secondary School Shakespeare Festival, most recently with
a production of “The Comedy of Errors”, bringing home 5 group
awards for students and the school. The club’s mission is to foster an
appreciation for Shakespearean classics and offer a creative and
artistic outlet for students who seek it.
We aim to make reading a priority for busy high school students who
might not otherwise choose to spend as much of their limited free time
reading. Through the small impetus of social pressure that this club
offers, students will find themselves spending more and more time
reading for pleasure. We read and discuss one book per month.
We are a co-ed a capella group. Our focus is to express pop, rock and
soul music as entertainingly as we possibly can. We may even include
some original material. We welcome musicians of all levels.

Also, we will create an exhibit for the Festival starting in 2014.
As a student at Richard Montgomery who is in love with film, I have a
hard time finding something along the lines of working with others to
brainstorm ideas, plan films and actually create films together as a
whole. The benefit is that it can be in school and take away from the
other academic or out of school activities and is a fun experience for
people who are looking to get involved in film or just trying to find a
group of people to do it with.
