You are part of a worldwide community of students who are all beginning their projects of inquiry right now. This is your chance to do what you’ve always wanted to do and get school credit for it. So where do we start? We will be using this system later. You will get an invite email and we will review how to submit your reflections. What do we need to know? Last year, you started by thinking about a topic of interest. Now is the time to ask yourself: ● ● ● Am I still interested in that topic? If not, what AM I interested in? If so, what changes might I need to make to my idea in order for it to be feasible? This is essentially what you will do today in writing your proposal. Remember the ABCDs All projects need to be: • • • • Assessable - you can measure your own success Believable - you can achieve this in the next five months Challenging - it’s worth your time and effort Desirable - it’s something you want to do Please look at the handout on your desks. Parts of a proposal Topic Goal General subject of interest What you will do or achieve Running, National Culture, Robotics, Family History, etc. Think: I will be successful if I... Context Resources Narrow or focus your inquiry What do you need? Look carefully at the descriptions of the Global Contexts. What sounds like your project? Think in broad terms, research can include interviews, surveys, books, videos or other more traditional sources of information like databases. Now it’s your turn! ● Proposals are turned in on a page on the school website. ● ● ● ● You can enter your proposal directly into the form on the website. You can write in another document and copy and paste it in later. A copy of your handout is in the classroom folder. You must use your account to do this! Let’s get started! What’s next? All proposals must be received by October 9th. Once you’ re done, mark the assignment as “turned in” on Google Classroom. Your proposals will be given to your supervisor to discuss at your first meeting Parent Meeting - October 6th (Auditorium) 6:30 -7:30 PM to review the process and answer questions. First Supervisory Meeting - October 21st 11:00 AM. How do supervisory meetings work? Supervisory Meetings 4th Period – Receive student folder and Handbook, as well as a copy of your proposal and pass to the gym, main office or guidance office. • In • At 11:00 - There will be an announcement dismissing you to the gym, main office or guidance office for your meeting. • In the gym, you’ll find your way to the table with your number on it. • You will wait for your supervisor to arrive. If your supervisor is not in school on that day, you will need to reschedule your meeting with him or her. Supervisory Meetings • Your supervisor will meet with you, sign off on your folder and you’ll be dismissed to lunch. • You may not leave the gym until you have met with your supervisor. will be coming to the gym from their 4th period classes. It will take them 7-10 minutes to get there. • Supervisors • Supervisory meetings begin when your supervisor gets there and end at 11:30. • During your first meeting, you will discuss your proposal and plans for getting started on the project.
