Metro Continues Successful College Career Program The 1199 WorkForce program located at NYU’s Metro Center continues to mount impressive results for its college bound participants including its Pre-RN component. Consistent with past performance, 100% of the Seniors in the program have been accepted to post secondary institutions to join the Class of 2017 this Fall. The NYU Upward Bound program originally served students with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities. Currently, the program continues to serve students with disabilities as an inclusion program. A total of 77% of these high school students meet either lowincome or first generation status. The NYU program addresses students’ needs through an intensive, 30-week, academic-year component conducted on Saturdays and a four-week nonresidential summer component. The program provides academic support, youth development/leadership services, test preparation, on-site tutoring, and a range of career and college counseling and preparation activities. The NYU program has established community partnerships that assist students and their families with a variety of support services. The results match those of any successful college/career prep programs of the metropolitan area inclusive of other STEP and TRIO programs. The current estimated total for scholarships/grants awarded to Seniors is at $1,070,071! Graduating Seniors include students from New York City public high schools and the parochial and charter schools. The program’s students have been accepted at many prestigious institutions, including the highly selective Macaulay Honors program at City College, Grove School of Engineering at City College, SUNY University Centers, Howard University, Parsons-The New School for Design, Pratt Institute, The Polytechnic Institute of New York University, Fordham University, Agnes Scott College, University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, and St. John’s University. Congratulations to all our graduates this year!
