LINCOLN CENTER CAMPUS
This full day institute will highlight the
importance of academic oral language
development and its link to academic writing
for ELLs. Recent literature supporting the
importance of oral language development for
ELLs will be connected to the expectations of the
Common Core State Standards. In addition,
specific strategies to scaffold writing will be
introduced. The Curriculum Cycle is an
approach of explicitly teaching each genre of
writing by: 1) building background knowledge;
2) addressing the linguistic features (targeting
the specific vocabulary) ; 3) and teaching the
writing standards and forms of the genre. Within
this presentation the presenter will also align
the New Language Progressions for Speaking
and Writing and the NYSESLAT Targets of
Measurement within the two strands.
