NYS/NYC RBE-RN at Fordham University & NYS Language RBE-RN at New York University NYC RBE-RN will host a series of 3 full day clinics described below in supporting all teachers of ELLs. Participants will receive a professional development certificate for completing each session. This is not a consecutive series, you may attend any one of these sessions independently. 1. Performance Assessments for ELLs: October 8, 2015 8:30am to 2:30pm The first clinic will focus on the design and use of performance tasks to determine what ELLs know and will be able to do in grades k-12, and how to support them as learners. This session will consider the students ability to perform in their Home Language or New Language (English). Audience: Bilingual, ESOL, content area and mainstream teachers working with ELL students. Literacy Clinic: Close Reading for ELLs- Elementary School Teachers Friday, January 22, 2016 8:30am - 2:30pm This clinic will focus on close reading strategies. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore the elements of a close reading and how to support ELL students in grades k-5 to engage in the close reading process. Audience: Bilingual, ESOL, content area and mainstream teachers working with ELL students. Location: Fordham University, Lincoln Center Campus Room: TBD 3. Literacy Clinic: Close Reading for ELLs - Middle & High School Teachers Tuesday, February 23, 2016 8:30am to 2:30pm This clinic will focus on close reading strategies.
