memo DATE: March 23, 2016 TO: WIC Coordinators & CPAs FROM: Rick Chiat, Food Delivery Unit SUBJECT: Abbott Nutrition Medical Formulas Label & Container Size Changes Abbott Nutrition Medical Formula Label Change Abbott Nutrition is in the process of updating several of its medical formula labels. The products affected include Similac NeoSure, Similac for Diarrhea, and Similac Alimentum Ready to Feed (RTF). The words “Expert Care” are being removed from the labels. The formulation, reconstituted ounces, and UPC codes of these products will stay the same. Similac Alimentum Powder Label and Container Size Change The label change which will have a more significant impact involves Similac Alimentum Powder. In addition to removing the words “Expert Care” from the label, the current 16 ounce powder container is being converted to a 12.1 ounce size container. The new container size yields 87 reconstituted fluid ounces instead of the 115 reconstituted fluid ounces of the current 16 ounce powder. Because of the change in reconstituted ounces, the number of containers participants are eligible to receive will increase (please refer to the chart below). The new container size is scheduled to appear on the store shelves beginning in late May. Until this change is fully implemented, both container sizes will appear as options in HuBERT. We recommend that beginning April 1st, you issue the current 16 ounce container size to participants for any vouchers with a first day to use date in May or earlier and issue the 12.1 ounce container size for any vouchers with a first day to use date of June 1st or later. Please note, however, if the 16 ounce container size listed on their vouchers is not available in May or June, the participant may need to have their vouchers reissued to reflect the 12.1 ounce container size.
