Breastpump Ordering Update January 2016
Contract extensions for 2016 with Medela, Hygeia and Ameda are now in place. See the
attached pump order guides for a list of available products. Please note:

Medela renamed their “flanges”  “breast shields”. This is the part of the pump that
fits on the breast, and comes in different sizes (not to be confused with nipple shields).
Other companies continue to call this part a “flange”.

We will reimburse only for products as listed and priced on the pump order guides,
unless you have received written permission from the State WIC Breastfeeding
Coordinator for a special need.
We will reimburse agencies for most products on the attached list, with the exception of
cleaning products and pressure gauges. These items have been added for your convenience
and are allowable expenses using your WIC grant. Some items require prior approval to be
reimbursed -- these are noted on the order guides. For faster payment use the checklist on the
Claim Form for Breastpump Reimbursement and make sure to include the invoice.
Coverage for breastpumps through MA has not changed. See MN WIC Breastfeeding Guidance
Exhibit D for information. Encourage WIC participants with other types of insurance to check
with their insurance provider (call customer service) about breastpump coverage. Calling while
they are pregnant allows time for obtaining a prescription, if required, and to learn more about

pumps coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
Are you from a small agency and need only a few manual pumps or pump kits? The State WIC
Office stocks a few pumps to help meet your needs. Do you need a refresher on purchasing
