U V I D E O C H A L L E N G E E N T RY F O R M A N D R U L E S The Minnesota Department of Health invites middle school and high school students to create and produce a 30-second video to spread the word that tanning is risky and enter a competition to win prizes. Challenge Champion – Judges choice $1,000 | First place – online voting $1,000 | Second place - $500 Selection of winning videos A team of judges will choose the Challenge Champion video before online voting begins. Then they will select videos to compete in online voting for first and second place. These videos will be featured on the UVideo Challenge website where the online voting will occur. Both the Challenge Champion and the first place winner will receive a $1,000 prize, to be split 50/50 with the winner’s school. The video receiving the second largest number of votes will receive $500 – also split 50/50. Be creative! Videos can be funny or serious, but should focus on educating young people about the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) light, both from the sun and from tanning beds. The judges will select the Challenge Champion and the videos to compete in the online voting based on ability to creatively, originally – and successfully – communicate the dangers of tanning. The selection criteria are: • Creativity and originality • Quality • Technical accuracy • Content of messages about risks associated with tanning. To enter the UVideo Challenge: STEP ONE: MAKE YOUR VIDEO WITHIN THE RULES We want to make sure your video qualifies for the contest, so we are starting with the rules for content and format of the video entries. Videos that do not meet these criteria will not be judged. 1. Minnesota students in grades 5-12 are eligible to enter. 2. Videos must be created by students, not adults. The UVideo Challenge can be part of a class or youth program, but video entries must be student work. 3. Videos containing language or images of the body inappropriate for a general audience, including small children, will be disqualified. Bathing suits should be appropriate for a high school swim class. 4. Videos must not infringe on third party rights. Use of commercially produced music, video, and images (e.g. logos) are not permitted. 5. 6. 7. 8. Contestants (and their parent or guardian) must agree to all terms and conditions on the entry form. The length of the video must be exactly 30 seconds. Videos must include at least 3 facts from the Facts about Tanning located at www.health.state.mn.us/uvideo/. Videos must be submitted in one of the following formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, or .AVI 9. Students may submit multiple videos, but each video must have its own entry form. 10. Videos must have a unique title. Do not call your video “UVideo Challenge.” STEP TWO: MAKE IT OFFICIAL • • • • Upload your video to YouTube and e-mail a link to: [email protected]. STEP THREE: GATHER VOTES FOR THE BEST VIDEO • Online public voting will take place from April 13 - April 17. • Finalists are strongly encouraged to promote their video to friends, family, and classmates during this time. • Winners will be announced on April 22. Important safety notice Safety should be the highest priority. Video participants should not be exposed to artificial UV light (e.g. tanning beds). Do not film a tanning bed that is on (emitting UV light). MDH and the UVideo Challenge sponsors take no responsibility and assume no liability for any omissions, acts or damages that may result from the preparing of materials to submit to this contest. Teen producers should safely conduct their projects and avoid potentially dangerous production situations that put crew, actors, or the public at risk.
