The porters current home in Chichester I will be moving (along with the porters) to Richmond [PDF 100.11KB]

Dear All
CREaM and Chichester I
A little more news.
The Chichester I Porters.
The porters current home in Chichester I will be moving (along with the porters) to Richmond, where
the old porters lodge is next to the lecture theatre. The new location will be modified and expanded.
As part of the initial investigation it is very likely that an examination for the presence of asbestos
will take place early next week, and probably on the 1st September. The new porters lodge will
utilise the current area and extend across to the brick wall on the left, assuming the entrance is
behind you. When the main work starts the student pigeon holes will be relocated to the more
secure student social space on the second floor.
Chichester I
The asbestos testing in Chichester I, as mentioned below, will also commence next week probably on
the 2nd of September. One of the samples will be taken from the floor of the Student Life Centre so
you may hear or feel drilling into concrete for a short time.
The other observations to be made see the highlighted text below will occur either next week or the
week after and for ease will take place in areas around the building surrounded by earth, hence one
small excavation will be at the front of the building, and two will be in the central courtyard. We
have ensured that in the courtyard the soil removal will not be close to any of the memorial trees.
In addition, before the 11th September, the area surrounding Chichester I will be non-destructively
scanned to ensure Willmott Dixon have complete knowledge of what is below the surface, thus
avoiding and accidental damage.
I still don’t have a schedule for the major works but I’ll let you know as soon as I do.
Diane
