General Information:
Grades will reflect individual achievement on the MCPS performance indicators for
each MP.
Rubrics will be presented for individual assignments as
appropriate. The MCPS grading policy does not allow extra credit.
Late and missing work:
• Each assignment will have a due date. This is the date by which you are
expected to submit the assignment. Grades will drop one letter grade if not
turned in by the due date. Any work not turned in by the due date will be
considered missing work and will be recorded in the grade book as a Z = 0%.
• The deadline is the last day an assignment will be accepted for a grade. In
some cases, the due date and the deadline may be the same. Work not turned
in by the deadline will be recorded as a 0. A zero in the gradebook
indicates that a student missed the deadline, earned a zero and will not
receive credit for the particular assignment. Once the deadline passes, all
Z’s will be turned into zeroes. (0)
Revision of student work:
• Some formative assessments may be revised to receive a higher grade until
the end of the lesson sequence. MCPS regulation requires teachers to allow
reassessment of at least one formative assessment per theme studied.
• Revised work within a lesson sequence will be not accepted after the lesson
sequence assessment / summative assessment is given.
No summative
assessment may be retaken.
• The original student work, along with the directions, rubrics, and teacher
comments, must accompany the revised work in order to be graded.
• Some formative assessments such as quizzes may be taken a second time;
however, the second score will take precedence over the first. The student
is responsible for attending a makeup session as announced by the teacher
before re-taking the formative assessment.
