If you are returning to PHS, we are excited to have you back! There’s no better way to be involved with your student’s education than becoming active in the PHS PTSA. Please take a few minutes to review the opportunities listed on page 2 for participating in our PTSA and choose one or more that fits your interest and skill set. Feel free to suggest new ways to be involved. We want to our organization to be accessible to everyone and as effective as possible in supporting our students. Please indicate an activity that interests you. Feel free to add an activity that you have experience with from a previous school. ______NEW BUILDING/MODERNIZATION COMMITTEE: Help raise awareness about PHS new building needs ______SENIOR BREAKFAST/LUNCHEON: Coordinate food and volunteers and work with PHS staff on events for seniors. ______STAFF APPRECIATION: Coordinate and set up refreshments for monthly staff meeting and other staff needs ______ PTSA MEMBERSHIP: Collect dues, track and report membership, and distribute membership cards _______NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Solicit nominees for PTSA officers; present the slate at the May meeting _______REFLECTIONS ART PROGRAM: Promote this county, state and national competition to teachers and students; solicit PHS student literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts submissions working with students and teachers. Learn more here: https://www.pta.org/programs/ArtsinEducation.cfm?navItemNumber=510 _______FUNDRAISING: Help coordinate current PHS PTSA fundraising activities including grocery store fundraising programs and ornament sales, and brainstorm and implement ideas to secure finances to support PTSA goals/projects _______AUDIT: Annual review of PHS PTSA budget with audit team of 3-‐4 individuals and complete and submit report _______HOSPITALITY: Help coordinate current PHS PTSA hospitality needs with PHS Administration, such as welcoming VIP visitors to PHS; organizing periodic visits by MCPS Board of Education Members; outreach to families/students as needed in the event of sickness or loss. _______CULTURAL ARTS: Coordinate 1 or two whole-‐school assemblies and/or facilitate an students art project from offerings presented during the MCPS Showcase in early fall; Attend showcase, prepare budget and coordinate with school to schedule 1-‐2 assemblies/projects. _______STUDENT/FAMILY DIRECTORY: Update existing template with new PHS students, arrange printing with local vendor, and coordinate distribution by OCT 1st. Work with membership chairperson to arrange distribution of National PTA membership cards with directory. _______E-‐LECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS: Help manage and contribute to the PHS PTSA Facebook page and other electronic channels, as appropriate. Share experience with e-‐communications and other Internet skills set, web site management and design. ______PHS PTSA BY-‐LAWS COMMITTEE: Review and update current bylaws by Jan 2016 Our goal is to have ALL PTSA members participate in some way.
