Breastmilk Comparison Sticker on WIC ID Folders – new
idea from Hennepin County WIC

Hennepin County WIC uses the “block poster” in a new way to show the differences between
breastmilk and formula. Jill Wilson, Hennepin’s Breastfeeding Coordinator writes:
We began using a sticker version of the California WIC block poster in conjunction with
World Breastfeeding Week. Nutrition staff put these onto the plastic sleeves of WIC ID
folders for CPW (certification of pregnant woman) appointments and CBF (certification of
BF woman) appointments. They have been a real hit! Here's what staff had to say about
them:
"I love using the stickers; they are my favorite breastfeeding tool. I think pregnant women are
really impressed by the visual. I use them when talking with women about the benefits of
breastfeeding and as a visual of why breastfeeding is healthier."
"I love the breastfeeding stickers. I feel like the comparison that I use to show my clients
always opens their eyes to the differences between breastfeeding and formula feeding. The
breastfeeding stickers are a good way for dads to see the benefits even if they missed the
appointment."
"I love them. I use them for both pregnant and breastfeeding moms all of the time. I feel like
clients like them too, especially moms that haven't had much exposure to breastfeeding."
The stickers we ordered were size 4.25” x 8.875” and were Semi-Gloss LSR Perm
adhesive – UV Coated. The PDF's are included as separate files. We were advised not to
adjust the size because it could distort the image. They fit perfectly on the plastic sleeves
and there is still enough room for a label with our clinic hours above or below the sticker.
