Administration As you know, students recently made their course selections for next year. We
encourage students to challenge themselves by choosing rigorous courses, even if
they are going to be seniors. This is because we know that the number one
predictor of success in college is a rigorous high school curriculum: AP, IB and
Honors courses. Please keep in mind, however, that the deadline to change
course selections for next year is April 25th. After that date, your child's course
selection will be considered fixed.
We want to let you know that academic support classes will be available to those
students who need them during the school day. We want to do everything we can to
make sure your children have all the supports available to help them succeed.
We also want to remind you that students who fail courses during the school year,
will have to retake those courses in summer school or in a High School Plus
program during the fall. This is why it is very important that students put forth their
best effort for the remainder of the school year.
We hope that you find this latest issue of News from the Brook informational and
enjoyable.
Thank you,
Daniel

10 Fine Arts Department Congratulations Ms. Lyddane!
Congratulations to our own Ms. Lyddane for being honored as Art Teacher of the
Week by Montgomery County's Art Collaboration Committee (ACC).
The ACC is a joint MCPS/MCEA workgroup designed to work on matters of interest and
concern to the visual arts. The ACC wanted to build a community of learners, so
they created the MCPS Art Teachers of the Week project. This edition showcases art
teachers who are novice, veteran, elementary, middle, and high school teachers in
MCPS. Highlighted here are the kinds of engaging and creative activities the students
are participating in, while learning critical thinking skills in their classes.
Ms. Lyddane has more than 20 years of experience teaching High School Art. Her
desire is to “instill wonder and excitement in the process of creating art within each of
my students.”
“Springbrook is the most wonderful place to work! Our students have such a vast
cultural diversity; bringing forth ideas, concepts, and creativity from their unique life
experiences and cultural backgrounds into the classroom.”
