BLACK-EYED SUSAN
BOOK AWARD PROGRAM
Each year the Black-Eyed Susan Book
Award honors outstanding young adult
literature by presenting an award to a
book selected by Maryland students. The
purpose of this award is to promote good
reading habits and a lifelong appreciation
of literature by encouraging students to
read quality contemporary literature.
Let’s Party! Each time a student reads a
nominated book and completes the
related activity, he/she will receive a
prize! Read 3 Black-Eyed Susan books
and complete the activity for each and
you can attend the Black Eyed Susan
Voting party!

Participate in the 25 Club! Meet the
state standard by reading 25 books in
a year! Pick up a 25 Club list in the
media center and begin today! Don’t
forget to turn in your completed list to
the media center to earn a spot on
the 25 Club display and a special
prize!
ROCKY HILL MEDIA CENTER
2015-2016
Students are encouraged to use the
computers in the media center to
research and create school projects.
Students must get permission from
the media staff to use the internet
and print items. You may only use
the internet to work on school
projects, to check Edline, or to visit
links located on the RHMS web page.
Violation of the MCPS or RHMS
computer guidelines (located in your
student handbook or the MCPS IGT-RA
Technology Regulation Policy) will
result in your loss of computer
privileges.

Rocky Hill
Media Center
Enjoy coming to the media center to
research or read a book, the media
center staff are here to help.
The media center is open to all
students, staff, and school community
members Monday-Friday from 7:30 am3:15 pm.
MISSION STATEMENT
Teach staff and students thinking skills
needed as life-long learners to
independently seek and use
information effectively and properly.
Nurture a love of reading through a
variety of literary experiences
throughout the school year.
Come visit the media center!
During this time, students may read,
check out books, work on homework,
use the computers to work on school
projects, check Edline, and visit links
located on the RHMS web page.
CIRCULATION
Students can check out up to 3 books
for a two week period of time. Books
can be renewed for an additional twoweek period (exceptions to the renewal
policy may be popular & new books).
Reference books can be checked out
overnight but they must be returned the
following morning.
Books cannot be checked out unless
overdue materials are returned or paid
for.
SUGGESTION BOX
Your feedback is important. Use the
suggestion box to help make the media
center a great place to be! Suggest a
book to purchase and ways that we can
improve our services. Use the forms
provided to make suggestions.
Before School: Open Monday-Friday
from 7:30 am-8:10 am. A pass from
your 1st block teacher is needed after
7:45 am.
During School: At any time during the
school day, a pass is needed to visit
the media center.
Lunch: The media center is usually
open during lunch. Obtain a pass from
a lunchroom aide. Sign in at the
circulation desk during this time.
ONLINE RESOURCES
Montgomery County provides great
online resources to research almost
any topic! Because they are
authoritative sources, you can be sure
that the information provided is
accurate and factual!
For passwords and web addresses of
our resources for home use, either
come to the circulation desk for a flyer
or download them from Edline.
Afterschool: We are not open after
school for the 2015-2016 school year.
Please feel free to visit us before
school from 7:30 am-8:10 am.
