An Introduction to PB Athletics

An Introduction to Paint Branch Athletics
Heather Podosek, Athletic Director
An Overview of Paint Branch Athletics: We have an outstanding athletic program
which is open to all PB students who meet the eligibility requirements. During the school
year, PB offers 41 teams over three seasons. We are the “4-time” NEC Consortium Cup
Champions.
Our Student-Athletes: Over 800 students participate in Paint Branch Athletics during
the school year. Approximately 50% of our student-athletes have at least a 3.25 grade
point average. By participating in PB Athletics, our students learn important life skills,
such as effective leadership, time management and organization.
Our Coaching Staff: We have highly motivated, professional coaches who do an
outstanding job of working with young people. Our coaches are incredibly dedicated.
They take an active role in the academic progress of all our students. Students and
parents are encouraged to contact the coaches to ask sport specific questions (Please
refer to the attached sheets).
Start Dates for Sports Seasons for 2016-2017:
 Fall sports begin Wednesday, August 10, 2016
 Winter sports begin Tuesday, November 15, 2016
 Spring sports begin Wednesday, March 1, 2017
Required paperwork: To participate in high school sports, all student-athletes MUST
have the following paperwork complete and turned on form collection day for each sport:
a current physical, parent permission/residency, Concussion Awareness packet
and a medical card. These forms can be found in on the Paint Branch Athletics website
(www.paintbranchathletics.org) and the Athletic Directors office. Coaches may require
additional paperwork, such as a transportation form or a signed team’s expectation form.
Academic Eligibility: To participate in extra-curricular activities, all students must be
academically eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 2.0 grade point average
and no more that one (1) “E” on his/her report card. Note: all incoming 9th grade
students are academically eligible to participate during their first marking period in the
school.
NOTE: This includes only incoming 9th graders and transfers from outside of
Montgomery County Public Schools.
Sportsmanship: Paint Branch has established a tradition of outstanding
sportsmanship. We have high standards of appropriate behavior for our players,
coaches, and spectators.
Get involved: We strongly encourage all incoming 9th graders to get involved in extracurricular activities. We are sure that you will enjoy the fun and excitement of
participating in Paint Branch Athletics. Parents are encouraged to join the Paint Branch
Athletic Association.
