Activity Description: For students previously enrolled in art club. Students will engage in multimedia application, working
individually and in groups to create art work for competitions, and exhibitions. Students will be allowed to select their media for

Activity Description: Students will read one book a month, with everyone reading the same book, in a friendly, small-group setting.
This will not be considered a class, but rather a Book Club, where discussions about the book take place. Students with work with
the sponsor to enhance reading skills and experience the joy of reading. Snack will be provided! The KMS Book Club will be a fun
learning program and also a way to learn to communicate and express one’s self.
Chess Club

Fashion Sewing and Design

Activity Description: Students will learn simple hand and machine sewing. Students will learn how to make patterns for clothing
production. Students will apply the techniques of embroidery to garments and/or pillows.

Activity Description: Green Team informs students and staff of the rules and procedures of the Green Schools Program. Snacks are
served and you can earn Student Service Learning hours. Members assist with recycling, mulching, gardening, making posters/signs,
and helping keep our campus free from litter. Note: Application with teacher recommendations required; 20 students maximum.

Math Support Club

Activity Description: In this club, students will receive support in different areas of mathematics, ranging from C2.0 Math 6 through
C2.0 Algebra. Organizational skills and the use of technology will be integrated into each session. The hope is for this club to build
student math knowledge, especially regarding the knowledge of basic facts, as well as improve student self-esteem.
MESA

Activity Description: Maryland MESA is a structured pre-college program designed to prepare students for academic and
professional careers in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology. MESA sponsors regional and state-wide events to
develop and highlight the skills, abilities, and interests of students in math, science, engineering, and technology. Throughout the
academic year, students conduct research and prepare to participate in competitions that demonstrate what they have learned
through participation in the MESA Program.

Activity Description: Students develop their leadership skills as they work together to design school spirit activities, create
community service projects, brainstorm student body ideas, and showcase student talent and pride. Students can serve as elected
officers or as volunteer committee members and chairpersons. This is the place to let your voice be heard.
Robotics Team

Activity Description: The robotics team participates in the First Lego League world class challenge. Participants develop a group
project that provides a solution to a need that is challenging the world at this time. They also build and program a robot to complete
tasks related to the research problem. Note: Enrollment will open to new members in January.
X-STEM

Activity Description: The X-STEM club will lead an initiative to cultivate interest and excitement in Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics, and Human Health & Medicine in the community. The X-STEM Ambassadors will invite industry professionals and
college students to speak about their work and careers to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM related
fields. The X-STEM program will raise awareness in the community for future USA Science and Engineering Festival events. The KMS
X-STEM ambassadors will partner with Northwest High School X-STEM club to plan and implement age appropriate learning and
enrichment activities at neighboring elementary schools to motivate students' interests in STEM.
Thanks to the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, throughout the school year students will have the opportunity to
participate in a variety of activities that are not listed on the prior pages. As these activities become available they will be
announced on the morning announcements. RecExtra programs are free to students and only require a signed RecExtra
permission slip for each activity that a student enrolls in.
