FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

How do I make an appointment to meet with my child's counselor?
Parents can call 301-968-3750 between the hours of 7:30 and 4:00 to arrange an appointment,
or email the counselor directly.
How do I make an appointment with one of my child's teachers?
To meet with an individual teacher, please call the main office at 301-968-3740 and leave a
message with the secretary.
If I have questions or concerns about my child’s overall performance in several classes, what
should I do?
If your concerns extend beyond one or two specific classes, you will probably want academic as
well as behavioral feedback from all your child’s teachers (i.e., is your child on task in class, is
work completed in a timely manner, etc.). There are a variety of ways to access this
information/feedback:
• You might want to e-mail each teacher and request feedback;
• You could call your child’s counselor and request that the counselor ask for feedback and then
share that information in a meeting with you and your child; or
• You may want to contact your child’s counselor and request a team meeting. Generally, a
team meeting consists of most of your child’s teachers and possibly the grade level
administrator.
How do I know what my child’s homework is?
All students have the Hoover plan book and are required by teachers to write homework
assignments in their plan books. Check your child’s plan book for homework. If your child does
not have anything written down, ask her/him why! If this pattern persists, call the teacher and
ask about your student’s homework pattern. In addition, many teachers post homework
assignments to Edline, and students are encouraged to have a “homework buddy” in each class.
How can arrange to get work for my child when he/she is ill?
If your child will miss 1 or 2 days of school, they may get the assignments from a homework
buddy in each class, check Edline, or see their teachers and arrange to obtain the work upon
their return to school. They will be given sufficient time to complete the work. If your child will
miss 3 or more days of school, please call the counseling office and arrange for work to be
collected. Please allow 24 hours for the assignments to be collected.
