The Montgomery County School
Energy Recycling Team (SERT)
awards three high schools every
year a Lead By Example Award.
The winning schools are chosen
based on their behavioral
strategies, energy efficient
projects and awareness
campaigns. Northwest High
School has been among the top
three award winners for the last
three year
- Staff Development
60 staff members participated in
professional development given
by the County SERT Office in
February 2014. The program was
called SERT Leader Success
Training and focused on SERT and
the importance of recycling and
energy conservation.
- Watts up
The Montgomery County School
Energy Recycling Team (SERT) has
a Watt’s Up Poster contest for all
the schools. Students and staff
are invited to create posters that
encourage others to conserve
energy, water and to recycle
responsibly. Northwest High
School has won numerous awards
every year.

- Winter got paper? Contest
Northwest High School is the
2013-2014 first place winner in
the categories of “most paper
recycled” and “most pounds
per person (PPP) recycled”
among high schools in the
“Winter Got Paper?” contest.
- Energy Audit
Members of the Green Team
conducted an electrical audit of
the classrooms in February and
March of 2013. The members
included Marium Ishaq, Sonal
Bhatt, Natalie Chao and
Qurratulain Shafiq.
