Before you start a Photo Story project, you have to have pictures in your “My Documents” folder Step 1: Start your Photo Story Open photo Story 3 from your Applications folder Select “Begin A New Story.” Click “Next.” (This step also allows you to edit previously created stories or play creations.) Step 2: Import your pictures Click “import pictures.” Select the pictures you want to import The images for a project may be found in a Hand Out folder, or they are in YOUR “My Documents” if you have downloaded them from a subscription resource we have the COPY RIGHT to use such as Image Quest. Blank Color slides can be found in Hand Out > J Boudrye > Other. You may need to use these for text. When you first open the folder, you will see these icons. Click on the “View” button and select “Thumbnails”. Now you will see the images and be able to choose the ones you want to import. ¾ To import a single image: click on the image to select it, and then click “OK” ¾ If you want to select several images, select the image, click & hold the “Ctrl” button to select multiple images, and then click “OK” ¾ If you want to select all pictures/images in the folder, click on the first image, hold down the “Shift” key, and then click on the last image to be imported. Click “OK”. ¾ Continue the process until all pictures/images have been imported. Organize your images: click on the picture/image; drag and reposition pictures/images so that they are in the correct order in the timeline. (During this step of creation, you can also remove black borders, rotate imagery, and complete other simple editing tasks. Clicking on the “Learn more about editing your pictures” statement will give information about editing pictures/images.) Save: Save early; save often • Once pictures/images have been imported and effects have been added, you need to save your creation. Click “Next.” Step 3: Adding text to pictures/images ¾ Click the picture/image you wish to add to the text tool. ¾ Type your title or text into the window and use various tools to change font, font color, and the positioning of the text on the slide. ¾ Click “Next.” Step 4: Voice-over During this step, you can add narration to each individual slide, customize motion by adding transitions, pan and zoom, set the transition time between pictures/images, and preview your movie. To record sound, insert your microphone into the port specified for your computer. Configure the mic and sound levels by running the “Sound Hardware Test Wizard.” 1. Select the picture/image for which you want to record sound. 2. Click the record sound button. (Circle with the red dot in the middle.) 3. Record your narration. Click the stop button when narration is complete. (Small circle with the square in the middle.) 4. Test your voice-over by selecting the preview button. (Small circle with the arrow in the center.) 5. If your narration is acceptable, repeat steps 1-4 for each picture/image you wish to record narration. If the voice-over needs to be re-recorded, remove the voice over by clicking the on the image and then click the record button, and re-record your narration. Customizing Motion: 1. Click the image in the time line with which you wish to work. 2. Click the “Customize Motion” statement directly below your image. 3. The program defaults to the motion and duration tab. Here, you are allowed to determine pans and zooms. 4. Click the “Specify start and end position of motion” box. The images in the Start position and the End position will have handles appear. Use the handles to position the images for the desired effect. 5. Preview the effect. 6. Save effects. This saves the effect for the image with which you have been working. You have to save after each image. Additional Effects: • Set start position to be the same as the end position of the previous picture- allowing for smooth transitions between pictures. • Set end position to be the same as the start position- this effect gives no change throughout the time the image is displayed- still. • Number of seconds to display the picture- overrides the automatic feature above, allows for more specific control of the picture displayed. Transitions: • Click the “Transition” tab at the top of the page. • The images displayed are the previous image and the current image with transition between the two images in the middle. • Use the scroll on the right side of the transition window to select the desired transition and preview. Use the arrows below the time display to migrate from picture to picture. • • Click “Save” (this saves the transition effect for the slide- only) and then close. Repeat as necessary. Step 5: Adding Music Click “Create Music…” button. Using music from Photo Story Library, click on the play button to preview music selection. If you like a track, click “Ok.” ¾ The music will upload in your creation. ¾ Be sure to reduce the volume of the music so that any voice-overs can be heard when the story is played for viewing. ¾ Click “Next.” o (To add more than one track of music, select another image in the timeline- the image at the place where you would like the new track to begin- and repeat the steps above. Transition between the songs will be completed by Photo Story program.) Step 6: Completing and saving your story At this point, you are ready to “render” your story. This process will convert your work into a Window Media Player file. 1. To select the location where you will store your movie, click the “Browse” tab and choose the location for storage. (My Videos is best place.) 2. Click “Next.” (Photo Story builds your story. This will take a few minutes.) 3. Click “View” so that you can view your masterpiece.
