Report of the International Exhibition on
the Experiencing Mathematics in Cambodia
I. Introduction
The Experiencing Mathematics is an international exhibition of Mathematics which was achieved
by the Science Center at Orléans, France, and supported by UNESCO. The exhibition has been
launched in some countries in South-East Asia such as in Bangkok, Thailand (June-September
2006), in Vientiane, Laos, and in Vietnam (Mid-November 2006-January 2007).
At last, under the collaboration and support of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports
(MoEYS), Embassy of France and UNESCO in Cambodia and Research Center in Orléans,
France, the exhibition was brought to the Kingdom of Cambodia for which the Department of
Scientific Research, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Cambodian Mathematical
Society take seriously responsibility for its process of launching in the four difference places.
The Experiencing Mathematics provides access to students, teachers, researchers and to all public
in the purpose of presentation of Reading Nature, Why Calculation? Prediction, Genuine of
Construction, Arts-Mathematics, etc. ..
II. Activities
The Department of Scientific Research (DSR) and the Cambodian Mathematical Society (CMS)
has prepared the schedule of the exhibition in 04 Provinces/City as follows:
- Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), Phnom Penh : February 22–March 15, 2007
- Regional Center for Teacher Training of Battambang Province :March 20–March 30, 2007
- Regional Center for Teacher Training of Takeo Province : April 06 – April 12, 2007
- Regional Center for Teacher Training of Kampong Cham Province: April 20 – April 27, 2007
All materials of the exhibition are belong to the Research Center. The Experiencing Mathematics
composes of 09 big stands and other 06 small stands, which are mainly focused on knowledge of
mathematics from elementary to higher level and mathematics using in daily living. The main
activities of the exhibition are to employ stand holders who are trained by a Mathematical
specialist from the Science Center, France to give a presentation of the meaning on each panel in
each stand when the public comes to visit. We got the training of the exhibition’s installation by
Professor Dr. Phillip Brière.
Under UNESCO’s support for publishing of 03 kinds of papers about the whole meaning of
exhibition and 15 street banners, we have prepared the distribution of papers to the 04 sites of
exhibition as follows:

DSR and CMS had implemented successfully the exhibition of mathematics in Phnom Penh,
Battambang, Takeo and Kompong Cham Province. During the exhibition, we got many support
and appreciation from the public, especially from the students who are keen on doing
mathematics. As the result, we got the numbers of schools and people who accessed into the event
at the above sites as follows:
