DRAFT – for 9/24/14 Task Force meeting � Physician Assistant (PA) pathway for an International Medical Graduate in Minnesota ACCEPTANCE INTO AN ACCREDITED PA PROGRAM OBTAIN PA DEGREE OBTAIN NATIONAL CERTIFICATION OBTAIN MN LICENSE AND DELEGRATION AGREEMENT Submit application Obtain external evaluation of credentials (from entity such as World Education Service, recognized by the PA program) Assigns equivalencies to U.S. courses. Take any needed prerequisities Complete degree program Pass English proficiency test (TOEFL or other test recognized by school) Obtaining mininum score required by school. 1. Submit overall application to CASPA (Central Application Service for PAs) Take GRE 2. Submit any supplemental materials to individual school (e.g., essay) Programs take 2631 months (about 3 academic years). Includes 2,000 hours of clinical rotations. Pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) Only graduates of accredited PA programs are eligible to take the exam. Apply for license Obtain Delegation Agreement with a physician Cost $75,000$88,000. Maintain license File Notice of Intent to Practice 3. Interview Academic prerequisites In one MN program, these include 30 semester hours in U.S. higher education setting. Clinical experience Depending on school, 250-1,000 hours required or strongly recommended Filed with Board of Medical Practice 4. Be accepted into program (very competitive) Includes Continuing Education requirements and maintainence of national certification Maintain national certification Includes Continuing Education requirements and taking recertification exam every 10 years
