What we are learning this week …
Reading:
Math:
We will be learning
more about reading partnerships this week. We will
discuss ways to have
meaningful talk about our
books with reading partners. Readers will also be
exploring ways to keep
track of the meaning of
their books as their books
are becoming longer!
Mathematicians will
engage in exploratory activities this week to discover that order doesn’t
matter when you add. We
will solve number strings
with multiple addends,
and learn several new
games (including “Beat the
Calculator” and “Close to
20.” Concepts of doubles
and near doubles will continue to be practiced.
Writing:
Authors will continue
to craft opinion letters
about a character in their
book. We are working to
cite evidence and specific
examples from our text
that support our opinion.

Happy November! We
will have a vocab review quiz this Friday, 11/6.
Students will not have to spell any words and it will be in a multiple
choice format. I will describe a scenario or word and ask, “Which Word
Am I?” Then, I’ll read a few word choices and have students individually
select the word they think is the best fit.
Our class will be taking a field trip to American Village next Monday,
11/9. More details via e-mail.
